I have had instances where all 4 players in a group got a ruling wrong. Guess they did not check the rule book.

I asked a group of 6 rules officials for a ruling in a pennant match I was caddying once and got 3 yes and 3 nos.  that was useful.

How did Muzz react?? haha.

If you had enough time, you could research a decision to the Nth degree, but out on the course, as amateur hacks, we aren't afforded this luxury.

Besides, you almost need a law degree to navigate your way through to the correct decision - something most hacks either arent inclined to do, or do not have the patience for or dont have the skillset to wade through it all.

Good referees don't need to navigate through it to provide a correct ruling.

If there was damage to the rear of the cart. I could hazard a guess at who was in the cart.

That would also explain why there was a 50/50 split on the ruling.

Emphasis on good.

With that said, i dont think ive ever had the pleasure or bbenefit of having a good referee on hand during comp.

Plenty of self professed rules experts, but no qualified good referees.

That's unfortunate because they are around and available.

Is there a register for referees or similar filtered by clubs readily available?

In which case, in most situations, You have the option of playing 2 balls & asking for a ruling at the end of the round.

From my brief reading I would suggest playing 2 balls is a penalty in some tricky cases.

Hence playing a 2nd ball is a risky option if it's not an obvious lost ball, OOB etc.

You can be certified for 'club level' or 'state level' by Golf Vic. They conduct workshops from time to time.

I would expect they have a list on their web site. If not, why not?
