Goldy, I've been at clubs with set grades, and with grades that are determined after entries close by splitting the field evenly. My preference is for grading after entries close. Champions have always been lowest gross when no matchplay component. Setting grades evenly has lots of benefits IMHO, helps to reduce the effect of sandbagging, and give a more even chance for people to win.
3 rounds of stroke with a cut should give the most deserving winner, but doesn't drag it on too much.

There's no place for logical thought in a situation like this!

Unfortunately one mans logic is not anothers.

Goldy has set the playing requirements at 4 rounds of stroke and is getting limited participation from punters on higher handicaps and a massive weighting to A grade golfers. Hence the evened* up grades end up being:

A: 0-5

B: 6-10

C: 11+

That aint logical.

Love your work mate :-)

To even up, we'd be

A: + to 7

B: 8 to 15

C: 16+

But it's not gonna happen.

Cheers for your input too, Peaksy.

Club Champs should be a PAR event.

4 rounds of stroke back to back is enough without even thinking about making it worse with a farking Par event

4 rounds of anything back to back is ridiculous...2 qualifying rounds then match play knockout from there to determine champ.

Par is for the overweight and unfit who want to limit the number of swings they have per round. Fit choppers want to have as many swings as they like.

Real golfers don't do par.

Ok, call me crazy, or well maybe even naive, but, why have ANY grades for club championship?

Open field. Best gross over 4 rounds. Have a cut after 2, to drop out the choppers, and then run a smaller field so others can get on and play.

Net score works for monthly mug, etc. But, FFS, club champs?

Club champion should be determined over 4 rounds of stroke play and the lowest gross score is then the club champion. Clubs then decide what the cut off for each grade is and you can/could have club champion and grade winners and Nett winners but to my mind the lowest gross score (off the stick) in each grade is all that counts. You could have a member off 18 who has 4 rounds of his /her life and becomes club champion beating players off single figures.
At Toc we went from 4 rounds of stroke to 2 rounds of stroke and top 4 qualifying for match play and this year it looks like we have returned to 4 rounds of stroke play and I am sure there are now lots of members happy we returned to 4 rounds of stroke play.

There should be club championship and separate to that, a match play championship.

I think some do their club champ via winning the match play
