So is anyone buying into the hype around putters with new tech built into them like the evenroll and the new ping gear, my golf spy reckons they are the real deal and the forums on the topic of tech putters vs wallhangers is interesting reading. So is anyone gaming the new generation of putters or do people think any old stick will do the job.

The Putter, like it's twin brother the Driver, is mostly a gimmick con-job: I have a dozen putters ranging from 1910 through to 2005, and my 1912 'Orion' putter by Gibson (Scotland) out performs all of them!
... although my Odyssey 2-ball putter comes a close 2nd!

... Find a couple of putters that suit you and stick to them: Ditto for the Driver.

But it depends what you like.

Mallets, technology can change quite a lot.

Something like the 8802 style, cant do much there. Same with Anser style.

Materials can change the feel, heft etc.

Facemilling may change initial skid? Not surehow much

Stuck with 1 putter since i started playing 6 years ago and have acquired 6 in the last year to refurb in my off time and taken them all out for at least 4 rounds every time I've gone back the oddessy 2 ball.
Get something you like and don't mess with it or you spend more time on readjustment and think you are putting bad.
Will these new putters bring a 15 capper down from 33 putts to 30?

Had a ping anser for a while till some arsehole stole it from my bag, I putted ok with that , then picked up a two ball and putting improved out of sight. Then switched to SC blade cos it was laying round in sons garage collecting dust. Bought a mallet Spoder putter couple of years ago. Must say can't see too much difference at all with the ball leaving the putter face, I.e, skidding, rolling etc.etc. not too many of the older golfers at our club have new putters like the young guns of today. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Ben Crenshaw used the same putter for his entire career.

'nuff said.

(Wilson 8802...cost a whopping $20...which was probably a lot of money back when his Dad bought it)
