Thanks guys - to you Vossie for starting this thread and Barnesy as if I would have slapped you down mate. ;)

I guess the point I was trying to make was not so much based around handicaps but for those more interested in enjoying their golf rather than playing in the comp. I guess I am at a stage where I just want to enjoy my golfing experience

This is the piece and like all such piece's it was designed to generate discussion although I do believe in what I was saying.

In order to enjoy the designer's intent then there is little point of playing from a tee which leaves you 50 metres short of where the designer's intent kicks in. There is plenty of opportunity to play golf outside of the competition days where the tee you use is dictated to you.

Good to see some discussion being generated as I think it is an important issue if the game wishes to keep people interested.

Maybe there is some merit in having different tees for different handicap ranges on competition days because in my mind golf from behind the eight-ball all day is not a lot of fun.

Bruce

I understand that Golf Australia are looking to change the handicap system ,so that players can do same as America and all play in same comp of day from different tees depending on skill level or what ever they want that day.

As I understand it the handicap will adjust for the tee played and aim ti make 36 points playing to ones handicap the standard. .

Our club has employed a 3 tee across 3 grades for Medal rounds the past year. Prizes for nett & scratch in all. Works fine for us. :)

Thought that was already the case, just needs to be setup in the Comp. we have a rule that over 80 years old plus a handicap of 24 you can tee off the reds in stableforde or stroke rounds.

OK, I'm a bit lost ... why the 'f.uck' do we need all this 'different tees' for different players'

So, let's say your 70, play off, what? ... hmmm, GA of 24.

At 70, you are retired, not working full time. So, can play golf DURING THE WEEK. So can PLAY "comp" rounds with your other retired, and generally more elder 'mates' and therefore play off the tees suited to YOUR demographic, for THAT comp. I'm sure the course can be set up with the white tee a bit forward, almost near the red tees, on the holes hitting into the prevailing wind, etc.

Saturday, and maybe one other day mid week, let's say Wednesday, can be the usual course set up for the younger, more active and WORKING people.

That way, the older crew, get to "enjoy" their golf, and, so they should, but not by making the peak times busier or more complicated for the younger more active and working crew.

Too simple?

there are many young players that are off high handicaps and don’t hit ball far. Play from the tee that suits there game they will enjoy more. Have to get over their ego!
