As I'm playing normally more than 3 rounds a week combination of 18 holes and 10 to 13

I normally use a new ball on Wednesday and use it again on Saturday then its to the practise bag 36 holes
And use another new one on Monday and use it on Thursday Friday and then its to the practise bag can be as much as 72 holes

The reason for starting this is I said the above to the people I were playing with the other and one person was shocked
They said they had been using the same ball for 3 months

One new ball to start every round.
Sometimes I will change to a new ball again at half time if I'm feeling generous. This can sometimes mean I got through a whole bax of balls every 6-8 months.

I keep using a ball until it's a bit knocked around. Then I'll clean it up, freshen my marks and use it again.

When cleaning it still leaves it scruffy, out it goes. I don't count how many rounds, but maybe six, perhaps.

It's a problem with Volvik Crystal Orange balls.  Besides drowning in deep water or on secluded islands they're very hard to lose.  One of my practice balls must have done 72+ holes and was drowned twice but rescued by the surf lifesavers.

Deep jungle on the Peninsula also eats them if the driver is off.

They rarely get scuffed but occasionally a tree or path will leave a mark.  At which time they get replaced.

Clubbies got a new one and probably again in the 2nd round this Saturday.  The OOM won't qualify as mid-table isn't worth $4.

If a ball isn't scuffed and clearly visible why would you change it, other than part of the mental preparation.  Saturday was special so a new ball was important.

My wedges don't even have a 50c piece worn spot so can't cause damage.

I suppose when your car is a year old, you throw it away and get another?
Or do you use it 'second hand / used' for a few more years?

If a golf ball is perfectly serviceable, why throw it away?
My golf has bigger issues than whether the ball is still pristine.

Yes. I see your point.

I think the car vs golf ball comparison is quite valid.

Well played, sir. Well played.

Generally I let the ball make the decision. Sometimes it seems to be tired of the way I play.
