Hi - I'm trying to arrange a round at Royal Melbourne for single-figure handicappers aunt and uncle from the UK (both captains of their club). Seems the only way is through member invitation (don't think I know any) or green fees of $550 per player, per round. Any other ways? cheers!

I would get your aunt and uncle's UK clubs to contact RMGC on their behalf, maybe that will work.

I'm not sure you'll get around the $550 per round though.

$550 sounds way over the odds for International visitors.

As pt73 suggested...a letter from their club as well as a follow up phone call or two and I reckon they'd be on for half that.

The website suggests $550 is the going rate for Overseas Visitors.

Really?

Screw that...it's good...but it's not worth that.

They'd be better off trying to hook up at the National...play 36 holes with a cart for about $150 for the day. Probably need some introduction, but I know that's what the member guest rate is.

In all due respect to RM green fees of $550 are totally unrealistic especially when you consider the Member/Guest rate.

These visitors are obviously respected Members out of UK and will find other options on the Sandbelt so much more attractive.
Suggestions as above are spot on. Recommend courses that are rated in our second tier and if they are prepared to travel the Mornington Peninsula are second to none in quality and price.

$550? Fark that. You could snort a gram of coke off a strippers butthole for less than that.

Apparently

Thanks all, realised I knew some members after all, so we're good to go. But have suggested others including the National to them.

As others have opined ........ $550 for a round at that joint is positively ludicrous, and is no doubt based on an international reputation garnered years ago, when the course may have had some skerrick of merit (in terms of direct comparison to other tournament venues in the area).

There are a myriad better options, eg stay and play packages  ..... playing Victoria, Commonwealth, Peninsula, Huntingdale, etc to consider.

Just my thoughts ..... :)

Good that you have cleared that up. The National is great but for easy access and an experience they will never regret book them into St Andrews Beach. It is public access and just beautiful. Probably require carts.
