Not the kind you find down the end of the street where nobody wants to visit! The golf club variety, I recently had the head of my 6 iron fly off down the driving range and now I've noticed a few of the ferrules are loose on some of the other cubs. They should be tight/glued yeah?

As Gaz has said, the ferrules can be re-glued or if the heads have come loose then the clubs will need to be rebuilt. The ferrules are used to stop moisture from getting into the shaft and the bore. If moisture gets in the shaft will rust and then snap if corroded. Better to be safe than sorry !

The 3 I took in seemed to have the heads on tight but i'm sure Mr Drummond will rebuild the whole club and charge me accordingly

Didn't charge me, didn't buy the clubs through them but because i've bought a bit of gear through them they "looked after me"

I played a round with a pro and the ferrule was loose on one of my clubs, he took a look and said don't worry about it as the ferrule is just for looks. Head flew off a couple of weeks later. Master club fitter my arse.

Actually the pro was sort of correct.....the ferrule is mainly cosmetic.....and the ferrule doesn't hold the head on.

Your head coming off had nothing to do with a loose ferrule.

Correct, I was just joshing him cause I know him. When I had the head glued back on the guy who did it was amazed, he said there was no glue residue at all where he would normally expect to find it.

Cheers, I believe that's not uncommon.......saw a bloke lose the head off a 5 iron playing a par 3, head went bush, never to be seen again.
