Hi all,

Just wondering if you could share the heat policy at your club?

We are reviewing ours to determine if we should allow morning comps to proceed.

Presently our policy is:

6pm news forecast the night before 38+: no comp, members can play at their own risk.

41+: course closed no access allowed.

The potential is to keep the comp on just for morning groups on these hot days, just want to know what others are doing.

If I can win an OOM anyone can.

At Tocumwal if the temperature is forecast for 40 or higher all competition is cancelled for the day and members can play social rounds at there own risk.
The club has used the heat policy used by the Victorian institute of sport as a guideline.

Pretty sure ours is the same Snappy. There's only been 1 day I can remember where it applied. They cancelled the comp and it was "play at your own risk"

Pretty sure my group of 3 were the only ones out there and we only played 14 holes.

We're under discussion re the comp tomorrow for this exact reason. As we are only the golf club and not the course, we can't close the course...but can choose to cancel the comp.

Probably likely it will proceed, at the players' own risk.

All play should be allowed to proceed at the players own risk, however if it's monthly medal, award that the following week and just have a regular competition tomorrow. Besides, it's not 41 degrees in the morning anyhow, so would be ridiculous to cancel a whole competition.

This is Bacchus Marsh's policy that is reminding us of when we have hot days.

We are currently still playing at the moment all day but it is most likely that will only be morning tee times   but a reassesment will be done in the am

anything really above 35 degrees ya gotta be made playing in though

• Should the event for the day be of a significant nature e.g. Medal, the event will be transferred to a date to be determined.
• Should the forecast temperature at 6:00pm as above be 42°C or more the course will be closed.
• In the event that the temperature on a competition day exceeds the forecast temperature and reaches 40°C the competition shall be cancelled and those on the course shall be able to choose to complete their round or receive a credit on their next round.

I do like that first line of the Bacchus policy

Olinda have already cancelled their comp for tomorrow, not just from the forecast temp, but severe fire danger and total fire ban.  Playing at Beaconhills, there aren't many escape routes in the event of a fire.

At Warragul, our forecast temp is still sitting on 40° but the decision won't be made (as per above policy) until 6:00pm.

Just looked ours up

(1) At 5.30pm of the day prior to competition, if the forecast for the following day is 37 to 40 degrees then consideration may be given to cancelling the morning field.
(2) At 8.30am on the day of play, if the latest forecast from the BoM, indicates a projected temperature of 37 to 40 degrees then consideration may be given to cancelling the afternoon field.
(3) Should play take place, signs will be posted outside the Pro Shop and on the 1st and 10th tees advising players that the Match Committee recommends that players do not play but should they determine to do so then they do so at their own risk, take extreme caution, and re-hydrate frequently.
(4) If the forecast at 5.30pm on the day prior to play is for above 40 degrees then consideration may be given to cancelling the competition for both morning and afternoon time slots. At 8.30am on the day of play if the latest forecast from the BoM indicates a projected temperature of above 40 degrees then consideration may be given to cancelling the afternoon field.
(5) Should cancellation occur, signs will be posted outside the Pro Shop and on the 1st and 10th tees advising players that the course is closed and that any player choosing to play the course will be asked to explain his/her actions to the Match Committee or its representatives.
(6) Should the forecast be for temperatures of 40 degrees or above the course may be closed at the discretion of the Match Committee or its representatives.

Well it seems doesn't even follow their own heat policy, I just got this email;

Due to the extreme heat forecast tomorrow, some changes have been made to the timesheet as per below;

  1. Tomorrow existing 1st and 10th tee timesheet has been cancelled
  2. The Club will run a Shotgun Start commencing at 7.00am.  Members are required to make a new booking for this event from 2.00pm today (online timesheet).  The competition will be Stableford
  3. The Course & Practice Facilities will be closed following the completion of tomorrow mornings Shotgun Start
  4. The Clubhouse will close at 2.00pm

Based on the current forecast, the following temperatures are expected.

7.00am – 22 Degrees

9.00am – 29 Degrees

11.00am – 35 Degrees

Members are reminded to take steps to prevent exposure to sun, including wearing a hat and UV protected sunglasses.  Applying sunscreen at regular intervals and keeping hydrated is also essential.

Just a reminder that the Club has fresh drinking water available on the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 12th and 14th tees.  Fresh, filtered water is also available in both locker rooms.

We thank you for your understanding with this decision, which is made with not only Members best interests in mind, but also that of our golf course.

What the.

Went to Sydney over the xmas break and played at my brothers home course Stone Cutters Ridge. Hotter than a deep fried sun, 42 degrees. There was never an issue with play being able to proceed or not. It was I guess a case of if you are an adult of medium intelligence then you should be able to decide if you should be walking around in the hot sun or not. PC and fear of litigation will mean we won't be able to go outside soon without some paperwork to disclaim our liability.

It was never 'too hot' to do stuff in the army.  If you pass out, they send for a medic.  Other than that, "get on with it".

Nor was it ever 'too cold' or 'too wet', either.

Kooringal:

Please be advised that tomorrow's hot weather is predicted to be above 40 degress.

Last November the Golf Committee revised the Clubs heat policy to cancel the competition when it reached 38 degress. In the event that this occurs tomorrow then anyone out on the course will be told that the competition is canceled and that a credit of competition fee's will occur the following week or next competition round. Players will be told to vacate the course for their own safety.

It is predicted that it will reach 38 degress by 1pm. Morning players should prepare for hot conditions or make alternative arrangements.

Remember if its to hot outside play inside. The Virtual Golf Simulators are still free until Sunday. It will be 20 degress inside with Fresh Food and Beverages available at the touch of a button.
