I just want it on record that I was absolutely gobsmacked at Smith's decision last night.

We've gone from an almost certain victory to possibly looking at defeat.

I thought he made the right call after the Woakes and Overton partnership dragged on. Don't want any of the fast bowlers breaking down so best to give them a rest.

It's still extremely unlikely England will get to chase anything less than 350 and they won't make that given they will have to bat tonight and possibly tomorrow night to win it, on pitch that is spinning.

Load of shite.

The bowlers needed a rest. We have no allrounders to give the 4 a break. It's a 5 test series.

Plus we only need 300 to be perfectly safe.

The ideal situation would be to bat until 40 mins before the dinner break which is Smith's aim I suggest. 4 and a bit sessions is more than enough.

The 1st session will be just occupying the crease wearing down the Pommie bowlers. Getting Broad or Anderson injured would be icing on the cake.

4 down with a lead of 270odd, with still two specialist batsmen to come and a tail that shows it can wag

I'd suggest the Aussies are a fair way from a possible defeat

40 mins before the dinner break?

How about until tea?

btw...I don't think the bowlers were wanting a break....tails up, professional athletes.....the ball would have to be surgically removed from their hands.

it's too sunny 40 minutes before the tea break, that would waste the new ball.

It would be much wiser to get them out there with the new ball when it's getting dark just before dinner

I think he's implying the Aussies won't last until 40mins before the dinner break.

That being said, they had the stats per session for day/night tests on the broadcast last night and the first session had more wickets than the night session.

The Poms have had such great success at cleaning up our tail so far.

Big opportunity last night with only 25 overs to bowl to belt the Poms.

Don't think Clarke forced a follow on until his last game (needs a fact check). Its the new way.

Sending a team back in after you make 600 and they make 380 is significantly different to last night's decision. We will win, doesn't make the "brains trust" right.

The lead is now 304 with 4 wickets in hand. Yeah, I think they are in trouble.

Looks like value.

thinks there's also the 'longer game' of making the Pom bowlers do some more slog for rest of series..

Correct Itchy.....earlier I was thinking we wouldn't make it to tea....but I forgot about Marsh's defence and a bloke named Starc

.....and as I wrote that...Marsh is bowled

Aussies still moved slightly ahead now

Anderson has done himself some likely damage...all part of the cost of not enforcing
