hi fellas,

heading over to the RACV Goldfields resort for New Years....and was wondering if we are best off playing the home track or head over to Midlands or Buninyong??

Preference would be something within a 15-20 minute drive.

And the reason I am leaning away from the RACV course is the seemingly recommended need for carts....and the fact that the others in my group are probably not as well stocked with golf balls as the reviews of the course suggest....

Besides, both Midlands or Buninyong have $49 for 2* 18 holes with cart offers going......and it will cost us double that at RACV.....

As someone that grew up in the area and still holds a membership at a small country club near there. I would suggest Ballarat GC is the best around at the moment and is well within your 15-20 minutes.

I haven't played Midlands in some time but have heard that the course is quite patchy at the moment it is usually OK around January though.

Buninyong is good fun to play, a good club and is usually in good condition but probably out of the 20 minutes from RACV Goldfields.

Have heard they have been doing some work at RACV Goldfields so some of the older reviews might not be as relevant - last time I played there was probably 2 years ago and I said never again with balls landing in middle of fairway and kicking off at right angles into trees never to be seen again.

In short I would be heading over to Ballarat GC for a game can usually get a deal with cart and drink  there as well.

out of the 2 courses you mentioned   i would suggest Buninyong

Midlands is a pretty flat course

however midlands is probably the closest to the racv goldfields Resort

as Birdie blitz  i would say Ballarat  would be a good course as well and has some good practice facilities

Buninyoung  has some good holes and the greens are usually good  bit damp under fett in winter but this time of year should be good

I thought Creswick was a good track? Has conditioning got it too firm on the fairways?

I like the original Creswick track - few quirks but got what you expected and what you paid for.

When it was redeveloped to Forest Resort it tried to position itself as a premium Ballarat club but the course and the course condition is not up to the level you paid.  I found that there were too many blind drives where I know I have hit the fairway but lost the ball also the fairways were always patchy due to the trees sucking out all moisture from them. Rounds were taking 5 hours plus with people looking for balls - it just wasn't fun.

I haven't played it since RACV took over. I had heard they have done some redevelopment so I may put off my judgement until I go back there but to be honest I aren't rushing back there. In order of preference on Ballarat clubs I would play in summer  Ballarat, Buninyong, Midlands, RACV, Mt Xavier. The order of preference changes appreciably in Winter.

Yeah, shying away from RACV because of the reviews of it being a tad too easy to loose your balls and eventually your marbles :-)

Booked the serious golfers in to head into Ballarat GC on the 31st around 9am....the 9 hole hacks are booked into Midlands the same afternoon.....
