hi fellas,

By the time I took the game up, 14-way divider cart bags were pretty much the norm.....as a result I never did really get to try anything else....

Off late, I am beginning to notice that although the 14-way system keeps clubs very well organised, it does not suit the clubs being put back in from anything other than straight over the bag.

I wonder if the slightly more open-plan nature of a 5-way system might have its merits in being more flexible while walking the course.

Thinking of driver + putter on the top, 3w, hybrid and 4i middle left, 5i- 7i middle right, 8i-Pw bottom left and the 3 wedges bottom right....... feels like i will be able manipulate clubs a lot better with the larger dividers.....

Concern however, is with the shafts and grips getting criss-crossed...possible accelerated wear or even damage.....

Given that I am now in the process of picking a waterproof bag.....thought it be a good time to resolve this quandary as well.....

Your thoughts peeps??

I have the 3 different types. The 6 in staff bag, 5 in the carry and 14 in a carry.

Have found the 14 to be annoying. It is great organiser but practically is a pain in the ass. I use it as a range bag now. Also found the dividers down the bag broke and split so while the top is seperate the clubs criss cross down below and can be annoying as well.

The 5 and 6 to me are so much better. Although have never used the 5, I love the 6 in the staff bag and assume the 5 wouldn't be too much different. I can throw it into the slot and not worry about getting into the wrong slot etc. They do get crossed a bit but so much easier to deal with and pull clubs in and out etc.

I sort it as follows for staff:

Top left Driver Putter
Top right 3 and 5 wood
middle left 3-6 irons
middle right 7-pw irons
bottom left 2 wedges
bottom right empty or putter depending on motor cart or buggy.

14 way stand bags would also generally be heavier, yeah?

I have the Callaway Fusion Stand bag from a couple of years ago.

Found mine pretty light. Have walked 18 at Frog, Yarrambat and 9 at Heidelberg with it and was fine. Summer and high 20 to low 30 odd degree days.

Usual in it. 14 clubs, 1 or 2 doz balls drinks and odds and ends and was fine to walk with. Not being as fit as I am now, I still managed to walk 18 no probs.

If it was no carts this weekend I may have walked with the 5 way to see what it is like.

14 way dividers tend to give me the sense of achievement when I'm cleaning my clubs after the round. They look so organised and perfect after being cleaned, and for the first couple of holes of the round getting the club I require is an efficient experience.

After a couple of holes, and especially after a bad shot, when the clubs just get shoved into anywhere they will fit, and the bag starts to look like a dogs breakfast. This becomes worse as the round goes on, to the point I have so many spare slots and so many clubs in the 1 slot that it's hard to get a club out.

My Ogio stand bag has 8 slots. 5 Individual for all but irons. Drives me rattier as irons are always tangled. I will always have a good quality 14 full length divider.

My Bennington is supposed to be the rolls Royce of bags but the putter slot lining is starting to snag my putter. Before I buy my next bag I'll be asking a lot of people about my choice of bag and durability.

The other thing is that I'll pay for and treat it as if it has a life of only 4 years.

I've have 2 bags without dividers. I hated that my clubs kept getting stuck together. This is however a 1st world problem as if you jiggle them the clubs, they all go in or come out OK.

I bought a Clicgear bag with 14 way divider and like the fact that the clubs don't get stuck. It is not as solid as the aforementioned bags.

I have also bought a 14 way Callaway stand/carry bag. It works well. It's lighter that the Clicgear and I have walked many rounds and courses carrying it. It has a solid top and bottom so can go on the back of a cart like a normal bag. The drawback of the carry bag is you don't have as many pockets as the normal bag. So if you going to carry you need to plan a bit better or  you will lug around a lot if stuff you don't need. I don't think the carry bag will last as long as the normal bag.

As mentioned in a earlier post the quality of the dividers is a bit of a problem and they break and you back to a bag with a divider at the top but not down the length of the bag and so are back to square one.

I usually run the normal bag on  a buggy. I have this arrangement down pat and set up my GPS on a holder on the buggy. I haven't worked out how to do this when I carry. But this post is about the 14 way divider, not carry versus buggy. I seem to have got a bit off point.

I had one, hated it,

Went back to my staff bag, didnt like the 6 way divider either,

Took out one divider, now have only 4, driver top left, putter & 2 iron top right,

everything else down the bottom,

I'm thinking of going to a 2 way divider, driver and putter up top, everything else in the bottom,

I'll let you kow how it goes,
