Sorry I confused. Different to Iron Mick and languid who don't think that poetry has to have meaning.

Iron Mick seems from his later post to have shifted from that view .

It took a while but we got there.

The rules mean different things to different players because so many players refuse to learn the rules other than learning from other players, many of whom do not have a great knowledge of the rules.

The cut was deep
It slid through my skin and bled me to despair.

I hope you're not suggesting that is meaningless.

you can say same thing about people learning how to play and swing the club.

That may be true but if a person is taught to incorrectly swing a golf club.( by choice) the only person that will impact will be the 1 person. If a large % of players have an incorrect understanding of the rules. That can possibly impact the whole field on any given day.

IE. Taking relief from a road. If there are no designated roads on the course it goes back to the rules of golf, definitions of a road. Many players do not understand this & seek and receive drops from anywhere that golf carts have been driven.

Try telling that to Mouldy.  I had to bring a cricket helmet out for my own safety when we played.
