"JASON Day’s longtime coach and mentor is no longer his caddie.

In a surprising move, Day has announced he has parted ways with Colin Swatton for at least the rest of the year, though he will keep him as the only coach he has ever had."

Interesting move considering the splits already this year. Article says Swatton was surprised by the decision.

I think its smart to give him a break from his coach and caddie and seperate the two while preserving the relationship with Swatton

Player trying to make his poor performance someone else's fault?

Actually I get the feeling that that is exactly what he does not want.

Swatton has all but been JDay's father since he was turned up at Kooralbyn when he was 12.

From what I understand, this was more about keeping a genuine relationship long term than flicking his caddy and blaming him.

I'm not surprised at all; especially given the debacle on the 18th at Quail Hollow. Swatton should have stepped in and stopped Day from attempting a 1 in a million shot. That brain snap was on par with Jean Van de Velde's at Carnoustie.

I get that he's trying to avoid creating more tension in the relationship

The only reason for the tension though would be that JD holds Swatton responsible for his poor form to at least some extent

But it's a team so if the caddie isn't able to do what he needs to do then it's the right decision

No guarantees anyone else will be able to do better of course

The change in caddy is certainly working at the BMW for J Day; 6 under through 16.
