Are polarized sunnies ok in a 2003 Toyota echo?

Please advise before 5pm - I have to drive home

Saw the optometrist this morning before getting a 4" nail in my $349 rear tyre.

I thought my eyes changing was the eyeball slowly changing shape. Wrong, it's my cataracts getting worse. Evidently their refractive index is in a sweet spot for my astygmatism.

I'm well and truly legally able to drive a car without glasses but Jumbo jets are out.

Settled for new graduated transition glasses so I'm not looking for reading glasses all the time plus I'll be able to see the ball better at 180m. My existing single vision polarised sunnies are ok for driving.

Golf specific sunnies will still need a prescription lens but polarised is not recommended. His business partner plays off singles at the Heath so knows his stuff. Copper, Dark Amber, Brown are the best.

He sells Bolle with a transition like lense which adjusts according to light levels. At $550 that's more than overs. They send prescription to Bolle USA where they're made and shipped here.

Most of the top brands can make prescription sunnies so I'll start choosing a frame and go price hunting. Oakley seems like the first step and then Maui Jims. At least I've got a price to work down from.

Just a heads up that polarised sunnies in the car will make it tough to view any LCD infotainment screen the Merc might have in it.

Certainly does.  Include the iPhone screen in that one.  Love my (polarised) Maui Jims for general getting about but it irks me at not having a good view of certain electronic screens.

Googling and a few calls and it seems Australian prescription lense wearers are a market to be bled dry.

A $225 pair of Oakleys with single vision lenses costs about $640 via Oakley.

The overseas online retailers can't deliver into Australia.

Bolle restrict the frames coming into Australia with only Opticians getting the full range and using RRP.

$400 for custom pressciption lenses to be fitted into my Oakley frames. $250 back from Health Insurance. $150 out of pocket. Make sure you buy sunglass frames that an Optomertrist can arrange lenses replacement for. You do have extras with Health Insurance my Lord?

Whatever you do, you do to yourself

Of course. I hadn't considered that Smart Mick. Maybe I delay the sunnies until 2018 as my new everyday specs will take up the annual limit.

Now that's saved me some bucks. Cheers Mickey Boy.
