As voted by the Economist, Melbourne once again is no.1. Three Aussie cities made it onto the list (sorry Sydney, you weren't one them) :

1. Melbourne, Australia
2. Vienna, Austria
3. Vancouver, Canada
4. Toronto, Canada
5. (tie) Calgary, Canada
5. (tie) Adelaide, Australia
7. Perth, Australia
8. Auckland, New Zealand
9. Helsinki, Finland
10. Hamburg, Germany

See, an airport rail line is just overrated.
It's heaps better getting bent over by parking fees and constant road works on the way out to that airport in the middle of farkin nowhere.

Obviously voted on by people who don't live in Melbourne I'd say.

(One day on the Monash Parking lot would change their minds)

Criteria is based on liability. Smaller population and large Metro area with an abundance of parkland and wetlands that cannot be developed for housing means we will keep winning.

Maybe, a lower chance of legal action improves livability.

Mouldy is right, this is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

one of the more amazing things about this place is how they were prophetic and so forward thinking with many of the architectural and engineering decisions of their planning along the port-front. Nothing is more celebrated than the way they named their city after the man who would become Australia's greatest ever finger spinner
