Golf is a simple concept made complicated. All we are trying to do is get the ball into the hole, and yet from this simple concept, an incredible variance evolved.

We can produce so many different shots sometimes even intentionally! Anything can be required at the drop of a hat in this crazy game. Only a select few can play all the shots, and even fewer still can play them well more often than not.

They say that it only takes 1 amazing shot a round to keep us coming back. This seems to ring true at all levels of the game, and as our skill rises, the standard of the shot to give us this feeling also rises. When we start, we are happy with anything that goes forward. As we get better, we like to see certain shapes in ball flight, and we start to feel the difference between a good, bad, and amazing strike on the ball. The whole time during our journey we play thousands of shots and only a few get selected to go into the long term memory banks, for a story to tell a friend another day.

What is your favorite golf shot? What is the 1 shot that gives you that real feeling of immortality? The justification for hundreds of frustrating moments, thousands of dollars spent, many many hours of your life given to the game that keeps you coming back for more. The shot you hit that immediately after the weekend is over, you spend the rest of the week thinking about in the hope that the next weekend, you can hit one even better....

Is it the high draw? The delicate flop? From the splash out of the bunker to the booming high cut off the tee with the big dog. The bump and run, the 2 bounces and check, the high spinning full wedge that can drag the ball back towards the hole like a Jedi Knight calls for his light saber.

Is it from a club that can get you in a lot of trouble at times? Is it from an old reliable rusty wedge that has seen better days but will only ever leave you when they pry it from your cold dead fingers?

What is the 1 shot you love to hit so much, that it keeps you coming back for more?

Whether you think you can, or think you cannot, either way you're probably right...

a knock-down wedge.

I was discussing this with a really good player recently and he agreed how important the shot is to have.

It's a shot that would save many golfers many shots over their rounds if they have it in the bag.

When you go for a huge bending shot and pull it off

I remember hooking a 7i around trees onto the back tier with the flag at Sanctuary Cove - it started outside the green and finished left side as desired - felt awesome

A guy I play with sometimes on Saturday's carries a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 in his golf bag and makes anyone who has a birdie or better take a shot. I'm not usually a bourbon fan but they're probably my favourite shot on a golf course.

Played with old blokes one day who do that with scotch. Was pretty lucky I only had 1 for the day otherwise I wouldn't have been able to drive.
