Just read this article...he must be talking about WAY back.

I can't ever remember rocking up to golf and selecting a caddie out of the caddie shack.

Maybe it's an American thing.

A big component of golf these days is the cart. Whilst I always walk when I'm playing solo or in comp, a round with "the boys" without a cart is just never going to happen. In fact I've offered and attempted to sell the prospect of a round with them walking, and they tell me I'm dreaming. This would only leave the option of everyone having their own cart for there to be room for a caddy, which can get costly rather quickly for each player.

I'd love to have a solo round or 2 where someone else could give me distances, suggest the right club, and warn of potentially unknown hazards especially around a course for the first time. Question is though, what % of the customer base would see similar value?

One word...Thailand........ Caddies are compulsory (good for employment) and most are exceptionally good at their job.....caddie fee about $10 plus another $10 for a tip.

You're not allowed to play with the caddies in Thailand, but they are allowed to play with you..
