Funnily enough it was a win at golf that coincided with me buying a fishing rod for the first time. Shore fishing at Airlie Beach was effing useless, my eldest boy caught a flathead, that when he reeled it in, the stupid fish hit him in the chest, stabbing him, and causing him to drop the rod and run up the shore screaming his lungs out.......

Never liked that rod much after that......

Consequently my youngest son lived out for a while and went fishing with wanka mates, other punks came along, trouble ensured, so the rod was lost in the water.... never to be seen again.

Also as a young greenkeeper, about 8-9 years old, fishing in a coastal creek snagged on a log, tried to unsnag it when the top half popped out, slid down the line, line snapped so was FORCED to swim out and try to retrieve it.......

I see your problem, you need a boat. That land based fishing may not be for you :)

Now that is a great lead in to another story I have on fishing.

My little Asian mate that I shall call Tan,had a nice boat, we went out to Moreton island, he had the throttle flat out basically, he looked like a kamikaze pilot with his eyes closed and mouth open, peak of his cap pushed back from the rushing winds....

Anyway he has a depth finder, kind of like a range finder, but it measures depth not length. There were masses of fish swimming under us, and for about 2effing hours of no bites, nothing.... nada..... even his crap ( just to how he pronounces crab, that's all) pots were knocked off we decided to come back home. WOFTAM IMOHO...

Fishing can get fcuked, stick it up your a hole, would rather have 88 off the stick than go wasting ( wasting and fishing combined)

Which also reminds me of a time when a young greenkeeper about 7-8 went out on Lake Keepit, to camp overnight, then started pissing down rain, so a
Slow not ride back to the mainland, tucked under Pops, great coat, without. A.single.fish.in.sigjt.

I am traumatised by the activity called fishing, except the part where my grandfather kept me warm and dry. That's a pleasent memory, even after all these years.
