"It was an over-application of weed treatment or something similar.  I don't know the details, but the suggestion is that the groundstaff made an error in trying to prepare the course for our busy season ..."

This happens sometimes with dreadul consequences if  putting greens are involved.

No doubt there is an internal audit happening on procedures at the Greenkeepers facility.

If not, there should be.

Greens are fine, it was only on the fairways.  The jungle drums sound like people have been given strong words.

I understand preferred lies but I hate when we have winter preferred lies and everyone uses it to create a perfect lie when they actually don't need to take relief. I know that everyone can do it, but it just feels like exploiting the rule

They should implement the "Prefer Lies if only needed, especially in the cooler months" this should solve all the issues!!!

"Think you should get relief in event of an elephant stampede? Not at Elephant Hills Golf Club near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where a Local Rule states that the golfer “shall be allowed to return to his ball, which shall be played as it lies, whether or not the animal had trodden thereon”."

And some people grizzle if they land in a divot here in Australia.

Another improper Local Rule which waives a Rule of Golf!   18-1 in this case.

Agree.  Moving vertically is still moving.
