Jordan Spieth's ball has good lie, in middle of road, but he takes drop on street verge - makes par...BORING and COWARDLY.

Modern golfers have lost the excitement and skill of predecessor s like Ballesteros, Niklaus ET AL...

The phrase foot wedge originated from a golfer who ripped his own leg off after his mashie broke and struck a great shot off the other leg

This was pre-14 clubs rule of course

After that he reattached the leg with his laces and a tee peg converted into a needle (and subsequently reused as a tee peg - you didn't waste anything those days)

Subsequently the phrase has become used for an illegal move but originally it was a respectful term

But the younger generation won't believe it!

Many years ago  at Castle Hill ball in a spillway in Water Hazard. It was a  concrete type. I had a stance and a good lie on the concrete.

Doing okay at the time I played from the spillway.

A burst of applause came from some young guys I didn't know were watching.

The applause was because I did the shot, not the result.

I really scarred the bottom of the club.

I got a reminder of my "foolishness'? every time I look at that club in the bag....for years.

I didn't have a sponsor those days. Still don't.

Done that myself....I have a damaged 9 iron and wedge that remind me every time I take their covers off.

I don't have a sponsor either

That's exactly why I carry a 'rock Iron', to play those heroic shots off areas that people generally take unplayables from.
