There seems to be a few price points with this stuff (some of the FJ gear pricing is breathtaking).

There's plenty of jargon to wonder at too, eg Adidas "climastorm technology for lightweight water resistance".  What's lightweight water?  I hope it means light rain - which wouldn't exactly be a "storm" then - or science might be in for a shake up.

So, any particular features to look for?  Materials?

I note that most rate some sort of water resistance and something called breathability.

I'm keen to keep it below $300 for jacket and pants.  Doesn't need to be for warmth but wind protection would be highly regarded.

lightweight meaning the garment does not feel thick and restrictive.

From what i have tried so far (and its a lot!), Cross 'pro' series is one i am now using. Very pricey, so  keep a lookout for sales. Galvin Green rain gear is the bees knees, very highly rated using the latest goretex stuff.

www.function18.com has lots of stuff. Click on the 'sale' items for the best deals. Pretty quick delivery from the uk. Golfbox too, though only if there is a sale on plus discount codes.

Good wet weather gear that will last, and perform as you would want, is not going to be cheap.

If you are the type of golfer that will happily play in the wet, you'll want to avoid most cheap gear.

From my experience it just gets uncomfortable.

It doesn't breathe well, so you get sweaty, and if it's not properly seam sealed you still get wet underneath anyway.

It's no fun to spend 4-5 hours cold, wet and miserable.

I've got the FJ short sleeved top version (modelled after Frank) as I hate to feel like the arms are restricted... and then usually I wear bugger all wet weather gear on the bottom half. (The top covers all my vital body parts, and the water just runs off it)

My tip would be though, whatever brand or style you choose, get one size bigger than you need, just to allow for a full range of movement even if wet.

I recently picked up 2 pairs of Adidas Golf Ultimate Fall Weight Pants from Function 18, have had a couple of opportunities to try them out and can say that i am very pleased with them.....

They are water resistant and a bit heavier to suit winter conditions....also are mesh lined and strechy...

Also picked a CK waterproof jacket for around $120 from GCO....Used it during a round when we probably copped about 2+ hours of rain, it performed appreciably and breathed quite well when the rain did stop and made it muggy.....

Like RobNewy, I don't even have a golf umbrella

I do have a wet weather vest that lives in the bottom of my bag, I have no idea on its condition though

I have nothing further, well nothing at all to add

The amount of games that Bump plays per year.....he's in a position to pick and choose the weather conditions.....I doubt he'd play if there was rain predicted.

I don't enjoy playing in the rain. So I got some Nike Wet weather gear for under $200 at Golf World. Black. Kept me dry. Didn't sweat. I reckon the pants will get a run at The Sands, wet or not........

What I'm talkin about is a game... A game that can't be won only played...
