I went through a Driver fitting today, and tried various Drivers recommended by the club fitter, including:

  • Mizuno JPX 900
  • Titleist 917 D2
  • Srixon - not sure of model, it was quickly knocked out of the process as it didn't work for me.
  • Cobra F7

With a new bag full of Titleist Irons and Wedges, the OCD in me was half keen on adding a Titleist Driver to the bag.

BUT.

I was open to all and any recommended by the club fitter.

I wanted what was best for me.

I want to take out any guess work.

I want to have confidence the club is the best for me.

And, to my surprise, the Cobra F7 with Fujikura XLR8 Pro 61 (66 gram) Stiff Flex shaft was the clear winner.

Anyone else using a Cobra F7 driver?

I do like the look of the King F7 with the olden days wooden look. I was going to get a similar type when I got my driver, but went with the LadyBeetle instead.

Like you hack, I went to a driver fitting today at Sharky's Driving Range. I tried a number of head and shaft options; TaylorMade M2, Mizuno JPX 900, Cobra F7, and Callaway GBB Epic. Tried Hzrdus, Fujikura Pro Green, Graphite Design AD DI 6S, Aldila Rogue Max, and finally the Fujikura Speeder 661 Evolution II. All shafts tested were stiff flex. Of all the combinations I tested, the best for me was the Callaway Epic with the Fuji Speeder 661 shaft. Absolutely superb ball flight and carry. As the 661 is not a 'no upcharge' shaft, if I'm to purchase this combo I'm up for $750; which considering the 661 costs $499 on its own, doesn't seem too bad. I reckon I'm hitting this 20m further than my current driver - Callaway XR Hot. Even slight miss hits were out over the 250m mark. I'm impressed.

Just read Chevy's post and thought, yeah, I hit the Cally too ...

Looking back, I left it off the list of drivers I hit.

I liked the sound of the Cobra, and the Fuji Pro 63 Tour Spec shaft was good too; Cally Epic worked better for me. Absolutely love the ball flight with the 661 Evolution II shaft.

Launch monitor.

So, what sort of data were you getting?

  • Swing speed? Did it change much between the different shafts / Drivers?
  • Carry Distance? Did it change much between the different shafts / Drivers?
  • Dispersion?
  • Actual ball flight change much between them?
