Charity Golf Day today ... tee off shotgun start at 12pm. 4 Ball Ambrose.

Beautiful weather. Blue sky, dry track, light breeze.

My ego wants me to smash at least a couple of bomb drives today, and drop a few close to the pin for the accolades. In all reality though, the best I can hope is that my swing holds up and I contribute to the team effort at some point throughout the afternoon.

Where are you playing?  Where are you a member?

Was at downtown Murwillumbah today. Home track is Ocean Shores.

Well, yes ... try was very much part of the process. Execution was nonetheless limited to my ability.

My apology folks. I should have been more precise.

When i said "limited by my ability" i really meant, "to know what the f.uck I'm doing"

I did, have actually, attempted to correct that today by venturing down the deep path of another lesson. Yet to get my body to do as it should, but the hours of online learning have proven correct as far as research goes...

More range time and what i can see will be a "break it to fix it" process. Going to have to park " on course" use until I get this next bit worked out.

I can hit with my other swing, but feel that's just using a bad tool. Time to commit to grooving this swing using the guidance of a professional.

Hmmm.

With a solid run of swell, its been more waves, paddling and wax than clubs, swings and golf.

But.

A 9 hole practise round, walking, carrying bag, between swells earlier this week showed up with average drives at 220m dead centre of fairways (gps measured off phone app), 4 pars, 2 birds, an ugly triple, a double and a bogey for 4 over OTS on the front 9 @ the new home club.

Only hit 4 GIR though, converted 2 to the birds. One of them, a "bounce back" after the triple. So, happy to get the mental focus.

Slowly coming together.

More swell on the way. Golf likely on hold for a while longer.

Well, it seems like a long time between posts, so much so, I feel I should approach this as more of a confessional.

Forgive me, for I have sinned.

Nah. F'uck it.

Let me grab another beer and bring you up to speed ...

Between surf, work and the the bloody Ekka 'flu, and just this week a good 'ole head cold, the golf clubs have been left unattended for too long.

Now, said head cold, arrived in perfect time to:

  • stuff up a run in the back marker challenge last Friday, and
  • interfere with a short game clinic I had booked for last Sunday.

Having pre-paid for the short game clinic, I dosed up on Codral Cold n Flu (original of course, give me the good stuff), and spent 6 hours learning what I was doing wrong from inside 50m. With a head cold slowing me down, there was no practise of what I had been shown until today, and it was not pretty to start.

After a few hours, I started to get the feel, and was dropping 3 out of 5 within a metre from anywhere inside 50m. Sand included. Was a good feeling. I was only using 5 balls, and tracking stats with the 5 balls. Toward the end, I did 7 sets of 'up and downs' and managed 4 in a row without a miss (i.e. 4 x 5 balls from varying distances that all went in for 2 shots - I hit chip, pitch and the putt out). So, that all felt good.

But, as I'll post in a new thread, I went into the clubhouse and checked the sheet from the Back Marker Challenge from last Friday, and was surprised to see the name of a celebrity on the sheet, with a bloody good handicap. Anyway, let's not spoil that here, I'll post up some details so you can all have a guess as to who it was ...

Since the short game clinic, my practise time has been very minimal due to work / illness  and a bit of surfing.

When I have ventured onto the course for a casual afternoon walk, I found I couldn't hit an Iron. Something's gone very a miss.

Bit of range time has not resolved anything.

With my health a bit low at the moment, it's rest time, and back to golf later.

Bit frustrating. Was hoping the irons would click like the Driver, and with the short game technique sorted, some practise and boom, look out single figures.

But. No.

Hmmm.

Golf, hey?
