WHere at Hack?

Pulled the trigger and signed up at Ocean Shores. :)

Had a wander in to the practice range (via the side gate, side street access) and hit a few wedges before the rain hit. Not a bad set up, has a maximum length of 250m, with markers out at 75, 100, 150, 175 and 200m plus a 'target green' (at 75m) and other 'target posts' (i.e. vertical posts to land between) out at 125m. The grassed area to hit from was in good condition with minimal divots and a putting and chipping green with a practise bunker.

Just wish the rain would go away!

Monthly Mug and Club Champs played off the Blue, so too the 'Blue Tee' challenge played the last Friday each month.

Compared to Pelican?

You played up at Pelican recently, how would you say the courses compare?

Very different styles

Both difficult - I've never played Pelican off the back though so can't compare them at the hardest

Your thoughts?

Blue tees at Pelican vs the Back Marker (Blue Tees) at Ocean Shores?

I haven't played either enough to give a useful answer

I will say OS off the back seat is very tough

The shores for sure, throw in a afternoon sea breeze and it's one tough arse track.

Pelican was brutal in the summer sea breeze. That par 5 3rd only needed a light breeze to make it just that more challenging... For me anyways, a slice tendency back then and somehow the lightest sea breeze just took it that bit further and... SPLASH.

Was reading an article where Kelly Slater played the Blue Tee challenge earlier this year with some up and coming young girl. She smoked the field. SCR for the day was 77 !

Slater plays off scratch. Bastard, but typical, he's a freak.

Finally got in some practise yesterday. Was crap. Poor contact. Poor swing. No consistency.

Week off has taken a toll.

Chip, pitch n putting were ok. Love the new putter. Practice green at OS much quicker than RC, so rolled first couple of chips long, but no two putts, so putter held up its end if the deal.

Few sore muscles today.

Aiming for a short, small bucket, range session again this afternoon.

Short (small bucket) range session this afternoon. Not ideal conditions as the wind was blowing the rain at 45* into and across the range at times, then would back off and be almost still and no rain.

Decided to concentrate on contact and feeling the swing. Seem to just 'click' once I relaxed the tension in my grip with the whole motion feeling much more free once the tension was released, and surprise surprise contact immediately improved!

Some solid straight shots resulted, and in the low wind no rain periods the ball flight generally straight or a slight high fade. It felt more consistent.

Move from 8 iron to 5 iron to test swing mechanics and first few had solid contact before the crap returned. I reset and managed to hit a few solid ones before running out of light to fully judge ball flight. Last few lost in the dark, but still solid contact.

Feeling it is again moving toward a consistent swing with solid contact.

Short (small bucket) range session again this afternoon.

Goal was solid contact with irons, no fat or thin shots.

Managed 22 in a row, from first ball, with a 7i before getting a fat 'ish one. Stoked!

8i, got 15 before a thin one.

Swapped between 5i (10 in a row before a fat one) and 8i for 10 and didn't get any fat or thin. Yew.

Contact was solid, direction generally good and ball flight OK, but again a tad hard to read due to a slight cross breeze.

Went up to 4i and they were a bit 'weird'.

3w same ... couldn't get one decent shot.

Back to 7i, 8i, 5i, all OK.

Hmmm, couldn't get why on the range.

Tried Driver at the end, nothing special there either

Just check notes and online ... set up for longer iron, 3w and Driver was all wrong.

Ah.

OK tomorrow, we'll get them.

Feel positive with the irons though. Some really solid contact.

Stoked.

Actual golf may well be about to start! Don't want to jinx it but, Friday is penciled in...

And, Saturday.

Sunday looking good too.

Monday, might need to round out the weekend, but, need to conserve it for back markers on Friday 30th.

Charity day in for 14 July too.

Finally?

Hope the weather holds!
