2500 will get uou a great value smart tv

Look at Kogan.

Not much point in getting a 4K tv without 4K content being available.  I'd wait for the content, then consider a new tv.

You're before me, I'm September.

A very quick read of Fetch and there's a lot of buy/rent involved v Netflix a flat $12 mth or something like that. Fetch seems a lot like the Optus equivalent of Foxtel that died. A pathological hatred for Optus and Telstra customer disservice puts me off Fetch.

I have a dislike of piracy so a bit negative on Kodi. Plus it isn't free as there's around $10/month vpn cost plus a crap interface.

Netflix has very good content.

The Fetch TV can be had free from Optus($80 plan). No need for any add on programmes. Netflix is on the Fetch TV.

With the catch up ability on Fetch is covers more than enough TV.

I am not trying to push Fetch.

The catch up TV and Netflix is built into many of the latest PVRs. Humax 2tune does a similar thing, but it cost $300. The Humax 4Tune does have the extra tuners, but cost $400.  The mightyFetch TV cost $400 from some retailers.

The only bonus of Fetch is the inclusion on some NBN plans.

Just ordered a Mi Box,

Getting sick of casting from my tablet to the TV, $120 for the 4k version with Android 6.0 and remote.

Damn good value.

Its when you use the tv as a mirror to whatever device you are using. Older tvs need an add-on gadget like chrome cast or apple tv. It plugs into your TV and acts as a receiver.

I have a spare chrome cast laying around if you are interested?

So with Mi you use the Mi remote but for Chromecast you drive it via a tablet ?

Correct Mi Box, Minix etc all run with Kodi as the interface off mostly the Android ecosystem. Cheapest way to do this is via chrome cast especially if I am offering you mine for free - geddit?

No not really, but the aim of these things is to catch the other stuff that are available overseas, paid tv, stan/netflix etc. so that you can watch the content that YOU want.

The only thing that I watch on tv now are kids shows whilst getting through the evenings with the kids. All else is foxtel or Kodi via the Minix Box.

Watch what you want, when you want.  No longer slaves to the TV station programmers.

The thing that may swing my decision is what setup will let me see the EPL weekly highlights program. Bloody Optus taking it off Foxtel meant not seeing the best program on Television.

So I need access to the BBC and the ability to record a program

Try this website it does work for me and some of my mates.

eplfootballmatch.com

It shows all the EPL games delayed by a few hours, the BBC match of the day, FA cup and loads of European games. No ability to record, but the games stay on for up to a week.
