Isn't the 17th over 160? I hit 4h into the wind last time!

Yes, i forgot about those holes. Good par threes at Yarra and Kingston Heath come to think of it.

Way back, and I mean way back about 1980, I remember hitting a fantastic wedge shot to one of those holes.

The shot landed a couple of feet short, bounced past the flag, screwed back and hit the stick, or rather the iron base of the flagstick, and finished about an inch past the hole. Muggins here was so disappointed in dipping out on my HIO that I went to backhand it and completely missed the ball!! :o

I was part of a group of Members from our Club and we had decided that there were no gimmes. Missed out on winning the day's best net by one shot!  :(

It was when the new course was first opened but the nines were reversed by a Captain who thought he knew better than the architect. The course flows much better from the 10th tee which is why I nearly always tee off from 10.

9th is a brilliant finishing hole.
Can make or break a round

Yes, much better than the 18th which is a 429m slog to a green that is like concrete and has never held. The 9th, especially off the back tee, is a strategic hole and not an easy par.

Question: Have you ever cried tears of joy on the golf course?

  •  Yes - several times
  •  Yes - once or twice
  •  Maybe, but I'm not sure
  •  No
  •  No - but I have cried tears of sorrow
  •  No - under no circumstance would I shed tears of any kind on a golf course

yes, once, playing foursomes.

It was the 26th hole of a 27 hole championships, my tee shot landed in the green side bunker, reasonably plugged. My partner got a big piece of it and it finished off the green. The back fringe sloped down to a sloping green. The putt was probably at least 15m, that I had to start at right angles to the hole and I nailed it for par.

We did a running high five and connected with one of the sweetest slaps I have ever seen and my hand stung like buggery for the next while and I am sure there were tears of both joy and absolute searing pain.

Yes, I had just opened a can of beer and it was sitting on the seat of my buggie when someone yelled fore from the distance and one of my playing partners seeing the ball bounding towards my buggy pushed it out of the way, I lost my beer...........and a golf buddy that day.
