I was talking about an actual wind measuring device, not a weather report from the bom.

Accounting for the slope impacts your club selection. Do you really not know that?

My point being, why is one device that helps you choose a club allowed but others arent?

You can check the temperature in town via BOM on your phone but may not look at a thermometer hanging from your bag.
Why is one allowed to take a drop from a hazard or unplayable, but not from the wrong side of a fence or ball lost in bush?
The rules are designed to be contrarian.

If you are in a hazard or unplayable you are on the course. If you are OOB you are not even on the course.
If you are lost you don't know where you are-by definition in fact. So where to drop.
I'm just pissed off OK? Don't ask.

Just through the fence, you pick it up. Lost in a bush, you know exactly where it is but can't get to it. In both cases, you'd know exactly where to drop if allowed. Ok, sometimes it might be as vague as losing it in a WH, but there's no practical difference. Just contrarian rules.

I don't know about consistently, but even occasionally is too bloody often.

Question: What would you want most from a caddie?

  •  Good conversation
  •  Clean clubs
  •  Yardages
  •  Advice regarding your technique
  •  To be quiet and keep up
