Garage floor was a mess so I decided today was the day to give a a good sweep.

But there was crap sitting on the floor everywhere and nowhere to put it on the available shelving. 8yo paint cans for instance were occupying prime real estate.

So off to the transfer station that now takes paint cans, full or empty for free.

Then of course is the unused bird bath sitting in the garage because the cat kept on jumping on it and toppling it over. Being concrete someone or something was going to get hurt. So stuff it, let's get the council to do a hard rubbish pickup. There's the small fountain the beloved wanted but was poorly designed and always running out of water. Just sitting in the garden and now on the nature strip.

A couple of stuffed outdoor tables next and a folding chair the bride used to take to the grandkids footy.

Then the assemble yourself wood wine racks in the garage where it gets so hot there's no way I'm going to store any wine there.

The broken vacuum cleaner that never got thrown out and the tennis racquets that haven't been used for more than 10 years.

Then the garden stakes, odd golf clubs and crap shafts. Plus the pet carrier for the cat who's been dead for a year.

And on it goes. 5 hours later the garage is looking pristine, my putting mat vacuumed and I'm a happy chap enjoying a cold beer.

Sometimes it's the spur of the moment tasks that bring the most pleasure.

Only 10 years for the tennis racquets, I would have waited another couple years just in case someone might have wanted them. Our garage needs cleaning out so we can get the cars in.

Just do it.

That was the worst bit of hoarding I've ever done.

Every year we clear out all clothes we haven't worn in the preceding 12 months.

I clearly remember my poor son-in-law having to clear out his parents house of 40 years when they went into care. Tok him forever and innumerable arguments as to how important some crap was.

Think about your kids and dump it all

I put stuff out my mother in law picks up off other people's nature strips and then I have to put it out again once she has gone home.
I agree it is pretty awesome when you have emptied out a man cave of all the crap that gets put in and are left with the stuff in it you bought or were given. Happy Times.

Having recently just spent a week up in northern NSW cleaning out my old man's place, and getting it ready for sale, I can only agree with you Rob.

His car did so many trips to the local op shops during that week, they thought I worked there.

Among the many finds, were 3 brand new irons sitting in the back of a cupboard (not the golfing variety) .. and this was for someone who doesn't actually iron!!

It is satisfying though to have a good cleanout, and with his car currently sitting in our now "overcrowded garage" at home, it's high time we did the same at our place.

We are also due at some stage very soon, to have the grandson and his parents move into our place for a while (while they build), so things are going to be very tight at the manor, even if we do de-clutter.

Yeah, it's going to full to the brim for a while .... but fun I reckon.

Thankfully they'd not bringing much with them, as 99% of its either going into storage, or into a shipping container they're setting onto their acreage (while their house gets built).
