Just another query (if someone can help) in relation to Matchplay.    On Monday I had to give my opponent 3 shots in matchplay and owing to there being no Matchplay Index we went off the Stroke index.     The holes were the 1st hole, the 3rd hole and the 18th.

The game went down to the last hole.   My opponent ended up squaring the last hole but had a shot so took it out.

I was thinking though.......if we squared it and had to play the 19th (i.e. the 1st hole) does he still get to have the extra shot on the 1st or is it just off the stick from then??

In matchplay up this way if you go past 18 the strokes given or taken continue, so if he got a shot in the 1st he would still get 1 on the 19th( 1st ). This is in the bylaws of GVDGA and we follow this at Toc.

Handicaps are calculated from 18 hole play. ie the player needs the strokes whenever he plays 18 holes.

So when he starts another 18 holes he needs the same handicap for those holes.

Match play index giving 3 shots

shots given / received on holes 4, 8, 12 * if start at 1st

if start match at 10th Tee  its hole 13, 17, & 3 rd.

if square after 18 match continues giving shots as before.

Yeah Geoff....I forgot what holes (4,8,12) I had to work the shots on so just went by the hole difficulty index. Perhaps that may have helped me if we had done it this way?
