ps: if it works for you Mouldman, then just do it. Try not to get caught up in the physics and numbers because they just don't add up !

Yep it works fine. Just sent you a text with the shaft I'll need. See you later in the week. Cheers

EDIT. Once my current crap is resolved the same length project will move into full time operation. It may well be that the 5i with 7i shaft will replace to 5h.

If you don't like how low your 6i currently comes in you're going to positively hate how a short shafter 5i comes in

Am I misunderstanding or are you replacing a 6 iron with a 5 hybrid? Must be the worst hybrid in the world if it's a club shorter than the equivalent iron

They're just numbers Weet.

6i is 28 deg. The 5h is 27 deg which I'll tweak to the equivalent of 28.5 deg.

Main thing is ball flight in the increased carry and less run.

Really struggle to get more than 135m carry with the 6i and then it runs out 15m. Ok if you can land short of the green like many of the Keysie holes but not good on many away games.

Why ? The steeper AoA will hopefully make it easier to compress the ball and get more backspin. Plus the centre hits will be increased.

My bet is that the lower swing speed will create less backspin and less lift resulting in a lower and longer rolling result

Smash factor from an iron vs a hybrid head are totally different

But maybe the gap will be fine - who knows until you try?

Given that hybrids are longer clubs than irons, between fairway woods and iron lengths then I'd suspect that he can generate more clubhead speed with a 5 hybrid than a 6 iron. Regardless of all the differences in lofts, head design and shafts, the hybrid is still an iron with a funky head !

He should and will hit it higher and more accurately. Will it carry further and land softer, not sure yet but it's a good bet it will because that's how hybrids have been designed to work.

Jon...

ps: smash factor is a calculation derived from the ball speed being divided by the clubhead speed to give a fraction or percentage eg - Bspeed =145 mph divded by CHspeed = 100 mph thus Smash factor = 1.45

Can apply to all clubs in the bag.

I was referring to him going back to a 5i head with a 7i length shaft

My bet is that it'll be lower than his normal 6i and less backspin

I he went hybrid with a 7i shaft that's different

Tis so nice to have your input into these discussions Jon.

Although it does tend to stop a certain amount of BS (and therefore amusement) from getting into the threads. :D
