What about they play an exhibition like the good old days. You could have a feature match at div 1 or 2 each week and div 1 women's. Then you could promote the match.

this is the arguement really isn't it

pros playing in amateur events

a strugling club in whatever division is not going to be no match against a pro

and pro versus pro  defeats the purpose of the vga

Seems were still asking the same questions that were asked when pro's were first announced - will GV check if players are actually eligible to play for a club, were they members before Jan 1, are they full fee paying members etc - and to my knowledge they havnt - as they told us they wouldn't at that same meeting - as it is the responsibility of each club to ensure they comply.

Also, no club has withdrawn from pennant because of this (mine pulled out this year for other reasons) and it seems more clubs are willing to play pro's / trainee's, only the media coverage GV hoped for, and big name players to front up has not eventuated.

Liberton you are right in what you say, two things emerge here as problem.

1 No controls in place by GV to ensure players are eligible is part of problem it seems.

A club could play anyone they liked, how would other teams know ?. Our country association is red hot on making sure pennant players are actually paid up members of clubs.

Also in our association rules a player has to have played 3 games to be eligible to play in final.

2. No clubs have yet pulled out- Isnt that is what needs to happen.

decisions need to be made by clubs at board level to boycott the pennant if GV doesnt reverse the decisions.

Here club presidents need to band together and show support.

other way to send message is for a team to not play a match (W/O against pro) (tough decision but would send message)

So the season is over bar finals - congrats to those who made finals and promotions - bad luck to those at the other end of the tables.

Heritage drops out of Div 2 down to Div 3, I remember them coming into Pennant, same year as Sanctuary Lakes and Melton. Churchill-Waverly get promoted to div 3 in their first year as a combined team - and Eastern drop down to Div 6 - would expect them to bounce back though.

For us at Eastern it was a case of not finishing the job. We got into winnable positions in all 7 rounds, only win was the home game against Riversdale (who are going to Div 4 next year). The round 2 loss to Montuna was the real killer for our season, if we had won that with the other results as have transpired we would have stayed in Div 5.

But the boys are too good to not bounce back hard in 2018!

Div 5 seemed to be very close between all teams. Many matches and contests decided on extra holes. Probably like all divisions. I guess that is what is interesting about pennant. Most sides have a chance to win each week.

Have you been over to Eastern for a game yet Itchy? If not, happy to have a hit with you and (provided you behave :P ) would be delighted to propose you as a member and get you in the side for 2018. RobNewy I'm sure would second my proposal :)

I have mate, it's not bad for a country track 😂
Couldn't see myself making the pilgrimage out there to play every week though.

One of the wealthy members with a light plane could fly you in every sunday morning as part of the deal.

Moorabbin to Lilydale and back 40 minute round trip ?

Yarra did the fly in thing with a young guy from Qld afew years ago for a pennant season.
