It would be such a shame if this tragic accident impacted on the viability of the golf courses. They are wonderful and I enjoyed my visit there.

I flew Rex airlines on a commercial flight from Tullamarine. You can get a return flight from Melbourne for about $350. That's not too bad and made the trip viable for me. The airfares were prohibitive imho but Rex has made them much more affordable.

Not good at all.

I know the aircraft well, as i have worked on it a lot, and i knew the pilot.

Not a good feeling

I was only bullshitting a few weeks ago about taking some of the reprobates on here for the same trip after I took a million off Eddy Everywhere.

4 American mates having a hoot of a time playing golf decided that King Island was so good they would play it again. Reeks of a spur of the moment decision over several glasses. Too sad.

Shocking situation.  Condolences out to you Rob.

Didn't expect to wake up in Saudi to a text from the Mrs saying that there was a plane crash at DFO but she wasn't there.  We live just round the corner.

Has there been any chat about closing Essendon airport locally? I've always thought it was getting built out somewhat, and that the land must be worth a prohibitive amount.

It's also bad timing for King Island with Cape Wickham presently up for sale

It's back on the agenda (so to speak) as there were a lot of people interviewed and spoke about it.   I suppose over the period of the investigation, it will gain some sort of response.

Very sad news.

When they built Essendon airport, it was out in the boondocks with no buildings within cooee.  Now it's all built up around it.

The same with Moorabbin. It had the golf course next to it as a 'let out' area and planes would have an emergency landing on the course from time to time.  Now the course is closed and factories are being built there.  How long before the same thing happens there?

That's what we were saying at work today. Moorabbin is the same but as if they are going to close either airport.

Sydney is 10 times worse than both Essendon and Moorabbin as well.

As a mate said to me last night why haven't they come up with the technology for rupture proof fuel tanks.

because the materials required tend to be too heavy to be viable in something that needs to fly.

Third time a plane has gone down since Essendon airport opened, way back when.

Tragic is the word I'm looking for.

RIP

Ive heard from a very reliable source that the wrong fuel was put in the plane ie diesel in instead of petrol or vice versa.
Interesting if its true

Very nearly impossible.

There is very large stickers next to the fuel filler which specify which type of fuel.

Refuelers arent stupid.
They fill up aircraft every day and there are around 5 or so kingairs based at Essendon.
