Here's a thought if in 7 to 10 or so years

the AFLW is going gangbusters

Will a mother-son rule be introduced to the AFL ???

I think the equivalent would be mother-daughter to the AFLW?

Yes that goes without saying but as both comps are under the one banner. it will be interesting to see how the process develops

exactly what i think of the mens non contact version too

aaahhh....don't get me started on that other "football" where the "foot" is rarely, if ever , used.

Aren't they going to change the name to Chuck Ball?...because that's what they do with it.

I went along on Friday night and after dealing with underwhelming transport support to get to the ground, wound up being locked out.  There was a huge amount of support and a great crowd there - much more mixed and family friendly crowd than I tend to see at the men's matches.

I am a big fan of the league and looking forward to it, but I am reserving my position on how well the AFL (and the clubs, including my own) are supporting the concept and dealing with the logistics of it.

"Novelty value" and "Free Entry" certainly has a lot to do with the crowd sizes at the moment.

The real test will only come I reckon, when people are expected to pay to attend.

It may succeed, or it may not, time will tell I guess.

As a big fan, I am well in favour of charging an entry fee - albeit a nominal one.  On Friday night, charging $5 per head I don't think would have put off many people, but it would have meant that they were able to have a better idea of how many were going to turn up.

Plus, I think there is something in the fact that people don't value things that they get for free.  Obviously the first round is a bit of a novelty effect, but I have high hopes that it will do well and be sustainable long term.

I'm so glad the AFL have found a way to let women play sport. This is truly an historic occasion. Never in the history of Australia has there been a women's sporting code. I shall remember this weekend fondly.
