Wonder why people in need of "help in their longer game" wouldn't just load up on hybrids?

If you're going down the road of the one length iron but then getting your scoring clubs shortened at a later date to regain control of them, you've not really thought the whole thing through too well.

There's a dude at Keysie who has the ultimate set of GI clubs

Every iron in the bag looks like a hybrid, including the PW and SW

From memory he plays off about 13, so he's not what you'd call a chopper.

Some people (Gaz) can't hit hybrids.   :D

There's a good reason for that Frank.

Most hybrids seem to have some offset, and allow a little longer time for the clubface to return to square thru impact… so they are good if people tend to leave the face open through impact, eg proponents of the franciegayfade. (This also matches a lot of iron sets which have a fair degree of offset, so a lot of golfers used to offset, find a hybrid a good and familiar option)

On the other hand, it you naturally square the clubface through impact (without any offset), then the ball tends to draw and hook as the clubface is square to closing .... at least that's been my own personal experience with them.

I actually tried a couple of them today at work, the new Epic, and Cobra, and yep, just hooked em all …  ;)

Probably more like 6 or 7 iron equivalent from Mr. Ping.

Gaz, you'd like hybrids if they had a steel shaft in them, something akin to what you've got in your current irons ( pick one from your multiple sets, several to choose from )

Jon...

I had this issue, but setting up for a fade shot seemed to overcome the left shape tendency. Another issue I had was that my grip seemed to close/ become stronger after my practice swing. Once became aware of that tendency and checked my grip prior to my actual shot, it fixed that left hook tendency was overcome. I think the guys at TXG You Tube channel also discussed this issue and there was a hybrid that they suggested, but I cannot recall which one it was.
