This week's PGA Championship at Baltusrol near New York City is the final major of the year.

I take a look at the leading chances.

Nice article Bruce, who are your dark horses, I like Matt Jones for a high finish, seems to be returning to some form after a poor year?

Jim Furyk is a serial good performer at the Canadian Open and then the PGA.  We are overdue for an old timer to win a Major.

Hard to go past the logical favourites in Day and Johnson. Day has not played as bad as his results would suggest in his last two starts and would not surprise to see him contend and Johnson well what can you say about his form.

McIlroy's form overall this year has been very good and I think will be a contender and I personally would love to see Garcia win. Garcia has teased us for 17 years in major championships but his most recent form has been outstanding and just maybe this could be the week to rid himself of the tag of being the best in the game without a major.

Mind you I wouldn't mind having that tag.

The best of the 40yo set has to be Stenson. Going on formm, Henrik has to be the favourite here.
What do you reckon Maxie?

Remember that period when he got taken by his manager and lost a fortune? He bounced back by winning $23 US million (FedEx Championship and the Race to Dubai).

Stenson has got to be hard to beat. Depends on what he has been doing since The Open. I think he will have a massive year next year.

Mickelson's could well be right there.

The PGA has a history of throwing up a first time winner and/or a surprise winner.

Day has no chance. He could be in contention, but his ball striking isn't good enough to win at the moment.

McIlroy wastes to many shots at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised to see him dominate though.

Tony Finau might give it a real shake.

You reckon it's going to be a course to suit the long drivers ?

Tis going to be a damned shame I reckon.

Here is Garcia playing his best golf in years, and at any other time, a real good chance to take it out ........ yet I reckon he's going to be swamped by a lot of others peaking at the same time as well.

Mickleson, Stenson, and Johnson, are all just red hot right now, and any of them could win, with Day and McIlroy probably just due to put their A games together again, and also possibly take it out.

It would be bloody great to see Sergio take it out, and get the monkey off his back eg : being "TBPNTHWAM" .... and no-one would begrudge him a win.... but I reckon they'll probably get to inscribe "TBPNTHWAM" on his tombstone.

My tip .... Dustin Johnson...... too good a player not to win a few majors.

Power enables a man to play within himself, and so with control; no one can play controlled shots if he is struggling for length.

Jason Day is in awe of DJ's swing and shot making. Pretty high praise from the world no 1. Fortunately for the field, the general view is that he is not the sharpest card in the pack and his brother (caddie) is considered an idiot.

To win tour events is a combination of swing, shot making and scoring. Of the three elements, shot making and scoring are the more important. DJ struggles at times with scoring.

His Grandmother did most of his assignments for him while he was at college.

Apparently he is a great guy, just thick as bricks.

Day reporting that he and his family are not well again. Seems to be his normal preparation for most majors or is he a hypochondriac?

Foxtel's coverage so far 3 out of 10 for mine. Let's hope Fox can up their performance to a professional level to match the event.
