Heading up to cairns for a week in October. May be able to get a round in, so curious as to where to try and play ( i think we are staying about 2km from cairns golf club). But also curious if anyone has any tours/cruises/ places they can recommend checking out while we are up there?

Scuba diving. White water rafting. Think that's about it. Wear thongs and you're overdressed in most places.
I'm just pissed off OK? Don't ask.

Scuba/snorkel the reef. (You should miss out on Stinger season)
Daintree tour, or if you can, drive up yourself and spend a bit more time looking around. (Billytea Safaris do great tours)
Cape Tribulation.
Head west to the Atherton tablelands.
Afghanistan War Memorial out that way.
Cathedral Fig Tree.
Head even further west to Chillago. Mareeba wetlands out that way, limestone caves, whole different scenery.
Port Douglas.

Yep, the drive to Post Douglas on the coast road is a must do I reckon. (Get a sports car for the job.)

Cairns "night market" is worth a look if you feel like a stroll after dinner one evening. (In the heart of town)

As others have said, cruises out to the reef (The Big Cats have their own pontoons & moorings out there, in the prime locations)

There is also the Kuranda Skyrail in the hinterland not far from town.

When I first came to Australia in 1991 I went to Burleigh headland pub. There was a sign on the door "No Thongs Allowed." I thought " fair enough, swimmers in a pub are bad enough!"

+2 for the RSL. Great value and decent meals.

Also plenty to see but depends what you are into. The croc farm 25 mins out of cairns near Pardise Palms GC is pretty cool.

You can always slip down to the esplanade at night and participate in the brothers giving it to the tourists.
