I think it's an insult, one of his better ones if you ask me actually

I'd assumed it was an insult because that is just what his go-to is, but then I wasn't sure if it was one of his more clever jokes that I dont understand.
I think it's safe to run with it being one of his better insults and I will take a suitable amount of offense from it.

Bumpy, you started the insults - some time back.  Mine are just follow-ups.

Phew, good to know it was an insult, we can carry on then.

I really hope I haven't missed any of your other clever insults that have happened in retaliation since some-time ago. Otherwise it's clearly been a one sides sledge match.

Hire clubs for first game. If you find golf isn't for you don't have to deal with getting rid of them. Doesn't hurt to play with someone you know either. Maybe able to get a few tips if they play, or have a laugh if they don't.

That's too sensible.

Dontplay...  Your mate in England is trying to make you play but you are in Australia???  What is it about golf if anything that makes you want to give it a try??  Answer that question for yourself and maybe some of the other pieces of the puzzle will start to fit into place.  THEN you might have some questions that receive some real answers to help you along the way.  You will however, ALWAYS get some answers you don't want, but generally they are just a bit of fun.  Take it as that and move on.  Hell, you may even find yourself coming back with a quirky bit of repartee.
