Your problem isn't the cost, it's the addiction. Once you are hooked that's it. You can write off quite a few years of your life hitting a little white ball around a paddock.   :D

Not according to others.

If you are considering taking up golf, that's a different situation.  It can cost as much or as little as you wish to throw in.  If that's the case, you'd need to provide some info about yourself.  e.g. Major city, inner or outer suburban, country town?  How often you might wish to play? Age group?  Prepared to spend a few grand even if you find it's not for you? Just want to test the waters?

Dontplaygolf, you should listen to OldBogey. What he says is absolutely spot on.
There are many others who do not consider him to be funny.

Will sell you my callaway X22 irons and callaway Diablo driver and 5 wood, callaway stand bag for 220:00 plus delivery, they have full lambkins cord grips. Bag is a little untidy, but will hold clubs nicely. They are right handed. That's all you need to pay for a set if first getting into the game.

Will even chuck in a half decent putter for free.

This gear at this price is far better than buying a full set of Retco or Brosnan.

Where are you situated???

There are plenty of municipal courses around the country. Just google public golf courses and you will be spoilt with choice.

"Funny" as in "strange" perhaps.

Tell us more about yourself. Where do you not play golf at?

Public courses in capital cities are frequently council run. Courses in country towns usually welcome 'green fee' players. If you hire clubs at a public course, they are usually rubbish. The set offered by JBH (above) would be suitable to start with and is a very fair price. He's at Caboolture Qld and heading off on a trip in a few days.

It's best to start with some lessons so you at least get an idea of how to do it all.

What you need is a golf buddy to help you get started. There are cheap clubs at most public courses, you still have to pay green fees, but you'll find someone to guide you in your golfing endeavours.

By cheap clubs, I mean a club for golfers with cheap membership cost.
