Got an email back from Arccos.

They have nearly all of Australian courses mapped.

I will send them a list of courses i usually play, and he will check to see if they are available

FWIW, I have found the software and updates on the garmin to be very helpful and easy to use.

It's time for an update.

My old Sonocaddie V300a has worked reliably for quite a few years.

It is so old that it only stores 30 courses.

To get another course, you open an app on the PC, logon to your Sonocaddie account and delete a course, get another, etc and update the connected device.  That's been fine, if a little tedious, and mine has all the local courses I regularly visit.

I'm going to Sandringham tomorrow and Brighton on Sunday, so I thought I'd prepare by updating the course content.

But alas, Sonocaddie have died !!!!  The PC program won't even run because it can't log onto sonocaddie to let me logon.  I sent them an email last Sunday and finally got a response yesterday saying 'we have a problem'.  It doesn't look good for the future.  Their web site is still running but half the links come up with a 'page not found' error.  It looks like they've shrunk down to phone apps only and I'm not surprised.

So I checked out my collection of android golf apps and found that Freecaddie seems very good, except for a rotten banner ad that one has to scroll around.  The Pro version, for the grandiose sum of $3.92 doesn't have the banner ad.  So, before I lash out a couple of dollars, does anyone recommend an alternative?

I found the display of GolfShot was mediocre, particularly compared to Freecaddie.

I don't need all the scoring, stats and other tripe that these apps bundle in (Freecaddie Pro includes those too). I just want the basic distances to hazards, green, etc.

*snip*

Swing by Swing was another one I used before buying a GPS watch. All the apps have the stats etc but think SBS was the easier one i found to use.

The industry has moved to a stats based and so on for golf as thats what a lot of the players coming through want to know.

I think for the most part you can switch them off or just ignore them.

Beagle (the one on here by local company) is a good one as well to use and try. Robnewey could speak on it as I havent used it yet.

The other might be game golf.

mScorecard isn't too bad, and free, and no annoying ads.

Game Golf app is ok too. You can use it without the club tags.

Beagle is ok, again, you can use without the tags.

They all use a Google satellite type image for the course and give you varying amounts of detail such as front back middle of greens, distance to hazards etc.

They all of course also have the scorecard and shot by shot input for stats tracking, etc.

I only play my home course and have tried to use the sprinkler heads to develop a "feel" for the distances rather than go on precise numbers.

Most time I want centre of green anyway. A lot of people get obsessed with lasering the flag which often leads to going directly at the flag wherever it is.

Yep getting the ball too close to the flag/hole is a massive problem in golf 🤔🤔

I’ve just bought the Precison Pro NX7 from Golf Discount Warehouse. It’s been superb so far. Half the cost of the Bushnell Tour V4.
