Who has what?

What would you recommend me?

Tossing up between the Garmin G7 and the G8.
Not sure if the G8 is worth the extra $120 for a green pointing feature and a 0.4" bigger screen.

Hit me with your advice and also what to steer away from.

Cheers

Garmin S6 watch.
Love it.
Watches aren't for everyone.
Has the scorecard feature which syncs up to a database.
Lay up distances.
Hole view feature allows you to select your distance to target/known hazards.
Can link up to your phone for push through text messages. I don't use this because I don't want to be checking messages whilst playing golf.

Inky has a "worn once" s6 watch for sale from memory.

I've always used the golf shot GPS app along with a range finder for when I get closer to the pin. Works the best for me. Gives me a good layout of the hole especially when playing course I am not familiar with.

Rob, I reckon if you just use the gps unit occasionally, with a laser most of the time, then the simplest gps is more than enough. I am using the G6 and its brilliant for me. While it can do input your scores and whatnot, if will hardly use it, then there's little point. For social rounds, I just use my phone to track the scores, and use the dedicated gps to look at holes at unfamiliar courses for bunkers, layup points etc.

p.s. the G8 looks really nice, got the wifi thing and elevation changes (which may be illegal?)

I've got the Sonnocaddie V something or other (maybe V300) ....... a few years old now and was a couple of hunge at the time.

I guess, you really need to decide what you want it for, re features.

Do you want something quick and easy, or do you want to be able to download the latest satellite images, and check your stock price like Ghetto's.

I rarely look at mine on course, preferring to use the rangefinder instead, but I always take it just in case.

If you're a gadget guy, then go with the latest and greatest ....... if you wouldn't mind wearing a watch when swinging a club, go with one of those varieties ...... and if you just want simple, front, back and middle of green etc ...... go the cheapest option available.

Have the GW1 Sureshot watch. Fairly old now but does the job well enough. Although I question it's distance to Hazards\Dog Legs etc sometimes.

I use it and enjoy it and find it enough for me! I was looking at the Garmin S2 that's on sale for $179 at GCO as an upgrade...

I have the old garmin that they don't make any more - g3 maybe?  Anyway, I like the GPS - it is dead simple and you can pick out the distance to a hazard or a treeline.  It seems to be pretty accurate.  I have been very happy with it.

i have the g6 and love it. Has distances to hazards and you can zoom in on the green and move the pin to its location. Screen is easy to see and the device is simple to use. All courses come loaded with no annual subscription.

Another +1 for the G6

I'm fairly certain that both the G7 and G8 are not allowed in competition because of the slope calculations.

I thought they have changed the ruling to allow you to use a DMD with those slope calculations, as long as you don't use those functions. Got me buggered how you'd police that though.

G7 and G8 are by fine to use in Comp, the slope feature has to be a enabled or disabled before you start your round, I don't think you can turn it on halfway through a round

But they are definately legal
