Olinda's annual awards night last night.

I wasn't expecting anything.

Not only did I pick up a m.medal, I won best putting without competing in the last two putting comps (best 8 of 12).

I haven't been putting much in here, so I thought I'd note the number of rounds played each month and see how they tally up throughout the year.

So for Jan 2018:

18 rounds of 18 holes

16 into GL

2 rounds of 9 holes

Hcap at start: 17.1

Hcap at eom: 14.8

My golf swing is under a state of constant improvement, or at least that's the intention.

 

I work on trying to get more length, with some success. But then I lose some accuracy so I work on restoring that.

I have an ongoing (recurring) OTT and throwing the lag.  I've also felt, for a long time, that my body swing is just going along for the ride and not driving the swing.  So my focus seems to keep varying between those three and how I might fix, and keep corrected, each of those.

 

I've cured OTT that many times that I think I have it beaten. But then a gay fade appears with the odd slice thrown in.  Did I cup my left wrist, which opens the club face, or was it OTT rearing its ugly head?  What was I thinking?  Of course, that's the problem.  We have something like a tenth of a second for the downswing and, not being a multi-tasking female, I can only think of one thing, a single swing thought.

 

My recent methods have included working on lag and firing the hips earlier.

 

As for the lag problem, I've long had the failing of an incomplete backswing. If I don't get a right angle between my left arm and the club shaft, I won't have the necessary lag to start with let alone down nearer impact. So, flat left wrist, get that club head well around behind me and "leave the club head behind" becomes the swing thought.

 

To get a bit of body drive, I've been trying to fire the hips first. Yes I had thought I was already doing that, but when I actually achieve that, I can feel a big difference to what I was previously doing. "Fire the hips" wasn't much of a swing thought although I did improve distance quite noticeably but a bit erratically. So the swing thought became more of a "cover drive".  I'm not into cricket but I could picture a batsman hitting a six to the right of yonder stumps. That worked but after a few holes I'd forget to actually do that and I'd find I'm just hitting the ball as usual.  The more effort I put into smacking the ball, the greater the variety of outcome, so I'd throttle back a bit and try to recover the round and I'm back where I started.

 

I watched a Monte Scheinblum clip recently where he used the analogy of throwing a Frisbee left handed to what was required for properly co-ordinated arms and body.  That struck a chord with me. It provides body drive, club head release and direction. So my swing thought for yesterday was "Frisbee".  I'll keep working on that for now and see where it takes me.

That also equates to about 4850 shots so far this year and we're only starting the 4th month, WOW !

 

Average 53.9 shots per day, " EVEN BIGGER WOW FACTOR " considering that you don't play every day.

Imagine if you actually went out and practiced for 30 minutes twice a week and hit 50 quality shots per session ?

That would add up to 6135 shots per every 90 days or 68.2 shots per day average. Only an increase of 14.3 shots per day over the quarter to maybe drop your handicap by say 20% with the correct procedure after some tuition. Worth while to have a hard look at the benefits or just swap to either lawn bowls and or darts ! Would also save on petrol and maintenance costs :)

a little practice,
Occasional lesson and some Pilates and lose a couple shots! Don’t play 6 days instead 5 days a week and see cap go down

Sorry guys, I would have replied sooner but I was out playing golf.

 

The problem with lessons is that they cost money and I'm just a poor pensioner, so that rules that out.

 

Besides, I know what to do.  It's just that actually doing it is a whole other matter.

 

As for Jon's calculation as to how many strokes so far this year, I don't really care.  I'm out there playing golf, frequently, and that's a hell of a lot better than not being able to.
