Now that we live in this high tech advanced world, we have at our fingertips, sources of news from all the corners of the globe, and it comes in all sorts of formats.

No longer are we restricted in terms of how we get the news. In the old days it was thru actual newspapers you could touch, television, or the old wireless sitting on the mantelpiece.

Now there are things like instagram, facebook, tinder (a forum for arsonists??), or that other forum for coffee lovers (grinder is it??), etc, etc.

With all these potential sources of information, and despite all these myriad of opportunities to hear the news that can uplift mankind ...... we still miss the things that matter, due to the sheer amount of drivel that bombards our daily lives.

Nowadays, the key I think, is to pick through the litany of garbage, eg, the Kardashians latest dromana, or the latest political rort ......... to find these priceless snippets of news that can truly enhance and enrich our existence as human beings.

That being the case, I propose that this thread be the place where we can indeed catch up on those truly worthwhile items of news that may have slipped under the radar.

Each of us at times may stumble over a newsworthy piece that has been swamped or drowned out, and that really should be broadcast fully.

Hopefully, you will join me in alerting others to the truly meaningful and critical things that happen in this world, that can really make an impact on our every day lives, and enrich the experience we know as the human condition.

I’d like to start off this thread with a truly worthwhile piece of news that may have been missed.

Miss Halle Berry, is once again …  single.

Yes the woman who won two “best performance” awards for her role as Ginger Knowles in Swordfish (and indeed saved the movie from its place in oblivion)……. Is once again on the market.

Police say a homeless man sleeping inside a garbage bin in Fremont, California, survived two compaction cycles after the bin was emptied into a trash truck.

Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said Tuesday the 44-year-old man was sleeping inside a large trash bin behind a restaurant when a trash truck collected it and used the compactor.

Bosques tells the Oakland Tribune the truck then traveled to a fast food restaurant, collected trash from another bin there and again used the compactor.

She says the man crawled out through an opening in the roof the next time the truck stopped at another store.

Bosques says the man was very lucky to have survived the compaction without serious injuries. The man, who suffers from mental health issues, was taken to a hospital to be checked.

A Florida man is facing charges after police allegedly clocked him driving at 110 mph -- while naked.

A Florida Highway Patrol officer arrested 33-year-old Noe De Jesus on Saturday afternoon after pulling over a speeding Cadillac heading toward Naples, Florida, on a stretch called Alligator Alley, Fox13.com reports.

Officers pull over excessive speeders all the time, but it's safe to assume the trooper will never forget his encounter with De Jesus.

When the car stopped, the officer noticed the driver wasn't wearing a shirt and had an open 12-pack of Corona next to him.

But the trooper got a surprise when he asked the driver to step out of the car. It was then he said that he noticed DeJesus was stark naked, and allegedly nearly fell when he attempted to put on pants, according to the Naples News.

According to the arrest report, DeJesus told the officer he did not have a license and declined to take a field sobriety test. The officer claims that the suspect also smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had bloodshot eyes.

In addition to the Corona 12-pack, the trooper allegedly noticed three empty beer bottles, three nearly empty beer bottles, one nearly empty bottle of Crown Royal whiskey and three female companions.

The arrest report does not mention if the women were nude.

DeJesus was arrested on charges of DUI and driving without a license. He was taken to the Collier County Jail.

The trooper said when DeJesus was being transported to the jail, he banged his head on the partition cage and was crying. DeJesus allegedly told the officer he was sorry and knew he should not have been driving.

The suspect eventually fell asleep in the patrol vehicle and began to snore, the report states. One of the female passengers told the officer she was in fear for her life when DeJesus was behind the wheel but did not call police because the suspect "is not easy to work with."

Dejesus was released on $6000 bond according to NBCMiami.com.

According to Collier County Sheriff’s Office records, DeJesus been collared before for everything from gun charges to disorderly conduct to grand theft auto, the New York Daily News reports.

Mystified police in Austria are trying to find out how more than 100,000 euros in 100 and 500 euro notes came to be floating down an arm of the River Danube.

Investigations have so far found no criminal act in the area in which such a sum of money had been lost, a spokesman for the Vienna police said.

One young man who spotted the wet treasure on Saturday jumped into the river to retrieve it, Oesterreich newspaper said.

Bystanders thinking he was attempting to commit suicide alerted police, who arrived just as he was fishing out the money. He is now trying to claim a share.

"The boy said he wanted to bring it to the police, but the question is whether the police found it or the boy," the police spokesman said.

In Austria, anyone who finds cash and brings it to the police can claim between 5-10 percent of the sum and has the right to receive the whole amount if its rightful owner cannot be identified within a year.
