The cheat call was 100% correct, but may have been mis-directed at the player.
So....the pro was cheating? The captain? Log off champ.

Is that how it works with a reactivated golflink number? Maybe I ask during the week or on the weekend and see what the handicapper has to say at the club
OB the questions asked when i rejoined were how long has it been since you have played? What were you off when you stopped? To which my answers were 4 years without swinging a club and i was off 8.3 the last comp round i played. The pro said you will have to card 3 rounds and start again with your HC. They obviously have a reason for the way they have adjusted my HC. Give you the hot tip, no one gave a **** when i was shooting mid 90s of 23-24, having 35-37pts and getting bugger all. String together a few good rounds and people that don't like it start blowing up. There are a good bunch there that have congratulated me on my fast improvements inc the club captain upon returning and the wins. If people want to be sour over $70 on a Saturday then they obviously have nothing better happening in their lives.
Okay as an ex-handicapper
The Butler has done the correct thing when rejoining a golf club
The Club Pro hasn't done the correct thing and by doing so has given The Butler an artificially inflated handicap and by he way he has done it The Butler's handicap will remain that way until he actually plays 20 rounds....
The correct procedure is for The Butler's new home club to find the old golflink number and have that transferred to new club or re-activate old number if he has rejoined old club.... If Club Pro can't find old number golflink is there to help and from experience it is an easy exercise .....
The Butlers round of nett 59 could well have been liable for action under handicapping rules for a Manual Bonus reduction for exceptional net score where by he could have been pinged 4 shots off his GA handicap......
For all a link to GA Handicap bible
https://www.golf.org...6411-source.pdf
So in summary the Pro has stuffed up
The Butler has ended up with incorrect handicap
How to fix it..... not really sure but personally I would think that The Butler needs to talk with his clubs handicapper and advise him of the situation, hopefully the handicapper will take some action, maybe by contacting Golf SA and asking how to fix the mess might be a good starting point....
Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds

Thanks for the info. Will have a chat to the pro on the weekend and gather his thoughts on the situation. As i have minimal knowledge on the depths of the HC system i was under the assumption that what they had done was the norm but its obviously not.
Personally i think my HC is starting to reflect how I'm actually playing where between a nett 59 and 44pts i had 35 playing of 22 and 39 playing off 20. A daily HC of 17-18 is how i think im actually playing. I was just fortunate enough to string 2 good Saturdays together.

Believe it or not Phil but calling someone a cheater on a public forum is fairly insulting to the person you are having a go at and the rest of us who don’t understand what the flag you are on about
Mick, you should understand what it's about, it's a simple concept.
Although Butler apparently didn't instigate the error, he is a very experienced player and would know, as you all do, that you can't have a huge jump up in your handicap and hope to get away with it. It's directly against GA's rules and has affected the outcome of a number of competitions. To sit back and take the cash is wrong. He has now volunteered to take it up with his club and get it fixed. That's the right thing to do.

I was having a stir, more than a slur.
The real problem is that the slope system is ineffective, even though it may have been a good idea. The assessment system is flawed.
I thought Golf Australia was moving us all to a world handicap system and a system where playing to 36 points is actually playing to ones handicap.

Yes, but slope is still part of that.
It's the assessment of difficulties thats not working too well.
I'm near enough to the proverbial bogey golfer. Yet I find Langy much more difficult than Warra. And even though you're much closer to scratch, you find Warra somewhat easier than Langy.
Either Warra's assessment was too generous (slope too high) or Langy's did not adequately allow for its difficulty (slope too low). This is reflected in how we both score at other courses. You should be cleaning up all the OOMs. I've got Buckley's, or maybe I'm just not good at golf.
The Olinda club has been at Beacy for a few years. While the initial unfamiliarity would have caused scoring difficulties, they're all quite familiar with the course now. Yet all their handicaps are now somewhat higher than previously which I believe is due to the low slope rating at Beacy.

The slope being nearly the same at both courses means they are both equally more difficult for a bogey golfer than a scratch former, but lang Lang is still harder for both a scratch golfer and a bogey golfer, which is exactly what your experience tells you.

Hi Dylan,
Just a quick email to notify you that we have assessed your handicap and found that your average score over the past month after initiating your handicap to be slightly lower then initial handicap cards.
We have reduced you to a 13.6 GA in the attempt to give you a handicap that is reflective of your true ability.
