Organising Murray trip end of April for some mates a week  on our way back to Sydney looking for an overnight stopover at either Howlong or Thurgoona can get $103/head Howlong and $139 (play and stay) which is the best?

We are staying at Commercial Club Golf Resort on the way down $107/head is this where we should stop o our way back?

Both are good tracks, although I have not played Thurgoona for a few years now.  If it is wet, Thurgoona turns to a bog pretty quickly from memory.  Played Howlong last year and it was in great condition.  My opinion for what it is worth is that with the $$$'s Howlong have been spending on upgrading the course, it may be the front runner.  They didn't poach the super from Royal Melbourne for nothing.  Corowa which is about another 5 mins further out, is also a very nice, well prepared track.

Downside is that Howlong is about a 20 minute trip out from Albury, whereas, Thurgoona is on the way home basically.  Accommodation at both is quite good,

Codboy might be able to set you straight as a sort of local..

OR

You could cancel the trip altogether, get the group to save up their leave and come and join the rest of the maniacs at the ISG Nationals on the Gold Coast in October.  No brainer really.

If you are considering Howlong just keep driving and play Corowa instead, or Black Bull which is the best in the area.

The Goon is ok. Pleasant enough but nothing mind blowing. Albury is pretty tight but has the most interesting greens to putt on.

Howlong is dull. Apologies to the numerous Howlong members on the forum.

Quite true I suppose..

At least I can say over the years I have played it as much, if not more times than most currently on this forum.  Used to spend an awful lot of time in the Albury area.  Played it on the way down to the Nats with Zookeeper and on the way back.  Also played it last August.

Ronald is right about one thing though,  even with the work done to Howlong,,, Corowa is the better track.

Thanks for the feedback.

First stop/course on the way down from Sydney is Commercial Albury.

Then 2 nights at Corowa play Corowa and next day off tour Rutherglen.

Next stop play Cobram old course  then off to Howlong play stop then home

If you are based at Corowa find time to play Black Bull. It's less than 30 mins away and the best course in the area by daylight.

Apparently, according to Codboy, they are opening the full 18 some time around Easter........it might be well worth a hit if it fits in.    I've played about 14 of the holes and the course is always in great condition
