Just got an email from the club captain and, subject to the current site being rezoned to residential, Keysborough are to relocate to another site in close proximity.

Dear Members / Shareholders,

As reported last year, the Keysborough Golf Club has been working closely with Intrapac to explore and evaluate the strategic real estate opportunities available for the club’s long-term accommodation needs, which included

• Assessment of the current and potential future opportunities for the land occupied by the Keysborough Golf Club

• Identification and assessment of strategies to secure the long-term future of the Keysborough Golf Club

• Identification and assessment of possible immediate real estate opportunities

• Preparation and submission of one or more commercial proposals to implement the potential strategies identified   through the preceding work

It is with great delight that I can report the consultation period has now concluded and after rigorous assessment of potential commercial proposals, the General Committee has unanimously adopted a proposal that will, with all stakeholders’ support, secure long term viability for our Club.

When reviewing the potential commercial proposals the General Committee’s primary focus was to deliver an outcome that serviced both current and future members’ of the Keysborough Golf Club, as was afforded to us by our forefathers in the late 1940’s with the move from Albert Park to our current location.

The adopted commercial proposal is fundamentally underpinned by a requirement to rezone the golf course land and once this has been achieved, relocating the Club to a different site within close proximity of our current residence.

Full details of the proposal will be circulated to all stakeholders in due course and will be accompanied by a detailed communication plan to ensure all parties can adequately evaluate the proposal and raise any questions.

Needless to say adoption of the proposal requires ratification by both members and shareholders, with a likely date to be set
mid-April to achieve this.

This is an exciting appointment for the Keysborough Golf Club and one your General Committee thoroughly endorses.

Yours Sincerely,
Darrell Swindells
Club Captain

Don't know what I think about it as I really love the current layout.  The course is in great condition and the only criticism I have heard from the members is the inconsistency of the bunker sand.

It will obviously take a few years to get the rezoning, purchase an alternative site and build a course so maybe a 2020 opening.

Do I want to play on an immature course for what will probably be my last 10 years of golfing ?

Who will be the architect ?  My friend Thomson or Cashmore or Clayton.  Quite scary.

Do I care if the clubhouse is rundown ?  An emphatic no.

Would I like practice facilities like Spring Valley ? A more emphatic yes.

So many other questions keep popping up

SO, exactly where are they going to move it?  Not as though there are too many 150acres patches of dirt going cheap in SE Melbourne.

Is this perhaps a polite way of saying they are going to merge with Woodlands?

More likely Rossdale seeing as they apparently have an option on some land within cooee.

How in earth are Woodlands going to cope with another 500 odd members unless they build another course?

If a Rossdale merger was a possibility.

With our bigger land parcel and a probably higher price per acre for Rossdale, maybe we would bring similar dollars to the table.

Given we are full on Wednesdays and nearly full on Saturdays it would need a few members of both to drop off.

Was chatting to a guy on the weekend who was member at Kingswood.  He suggested that most members of the now merged club are chortling to themselves a the deal and are putting together wish list for how to spent the $120m.  Gold plated spa baths apparently.  Some cranky old buggers still resisting, but most now sees the sense.

It certainly is survival of the fittest through the South East at the moment.

Just a guess but... at least 2 clubs gone through the South East and 2 courses gone on the Mornington Peninsula.

The peninsula fascinates me. Superb courses. Lots public. Who plays them?

What about Sandbelt courses?
