You post a lot of rubbish Dave, but none moreso than in this thread - we can now safely add cricket to the list of topics which you are clueless about.

Nothing wrong with a pitch where a well selected, dedicated team can make 740 runs for the loss of 11 wickets (after being 2/7). Australia just aren't up to playing where quality spin bowling and patience are factors. Only Warner and perhaps Rogers can get a pass here, the rest have been shown up for poor technique and a lack of ticker. When we have a muppet like Mitch Marsh coming in at 6 we are always going to struggle, let alone a number 3 in Doolan who wouldn't a game for the Albany 3rds.

**** off

Once again in the sub continent dubious umpiring

Can we take any game involving India or Pakistan seriously?

Johnson foot was behind the line on the Sony 92cm hd tv I'm watching

But clearly the 3 inch monitor they use is a black and white rank arena made in 1972

**** off

Well done Pakistan ...dodgy pitch and dodgy umpiring went your way though

Yup they will win games on this crap wicket and get flogged everywhere else

Put one blade of grass on any pitch and they get flogged

Australia were poor, very poor

Johnson and Warner excellent

The rest were rubbish

2 won't beat 11

Toss played a huge part also ...boof wouldn't be concerned though

Lyon with a Michelle. Confirming his place as the number 1 spinner in Aus. Now let's hope he can bowl us to victory tomorrow.

It's the same people that bag Clarke, that bag Lyon.........

Clarke= best cricketer in this country, and best leader in the country.
Lyon= best spinner in the country, and his stats prove it. Time and time again!!

Look, I miss the Tubby Taylor and Shane Warne era as well. I really do.
But people need to get past it and realise that was many years ago and they just aren't captain the country, or bowl leggies for the country anymore and somebody else has to do it......

I think you Aussies need to realize you've had it way too good for way too long when it comes to spinners.

You had the best spinner there's ever been in Shane Warne for 15 years. And during his time you had 3 or 4 other excellent spinners who couldn't get much of a look in. Particularly MacGill & Hogg who in any other era would have been first choice. Magill especially had a brilliant record anyway and would have had even better figures if he was the only leggie around.

Nathan Lyon is a pretty decent spinner. He is not going to excel in many games, but he's there and can be depended on to bowl pretty well in flat conditions (like Adelaide) and maybe win the odd game in helpful conditions. Taking a 5-fer in this test is no mean feat against a side that traditionally plays spin very well.

edit > pipped to the post by groovy above in saying no spinner is again going to do what Warne did for Australia. Move on.

I said ages his record is pretty decent

He's the best spinner we have

There isn't anyone else knocking the door down.

He averages just over 32 with the ball ....that's hardly bad numbers

I hope Cameron Boyce gets a gig but not until he's ready. To many times we've rushed a spinner in because he had promise (Agar) Boyce has the package but is still plying his craft.

to ply their trade spinners need to experience wickets that are either flat dead tracks or turn on days three and four in shield cricket .In recent times states were producing green tops to get results .

This results in fast bowlers who get way ahead of themselves and no spinners who can bowl a side out and if you look back at our bowlers we have had a lot of bowlers who look good on paper but dont cut it in test cricket .

Lyon has had to learn on the job in test matches and has done a good job of it ,he hasnt had a strong shield comp to learn his trade in .I think he is now learning how to bowl sides out and will only get better from here

Good points rjp, The thing I like about Boyce is he is able to get wickets while playing 50% of his cricket at the GABBA or Alan Border field. both notorious seaming decks.

Must admit I was a non-believer especially when they were smacking him all over the park but he shut me the **** up.  Happy to see him bowling slower with more loop.  Actually looked like a spin bowler.
