What a difference a week makes.  Didn't hit many fairways and definitely having the feeling that I am right in the middle of that period of transition in the driver swing.  The difference was there was only probably two shots where I felt like I didn't have control of it.  And most of the time I could play a shot just fine.

It was a very cold and windy day, resulting in a pretty small field, which sometimes happens in the winter months around Rosebud.  And it wasn't a matter of hitting great shots, because I only had one par all day.  However, it was more a case of avoiding the blowouts and avoiding wipes.  After the putting nightmare last week, I putted really well, holing some lovely putts to save two or one pointers.  I haven't loaded up the round yet but I can't recall any three putts.  Spent plenty of time in bunkers, but did alright with getting out of them.  Had two hitlers - one of which was just a mis-judgment where I hit it a bit too soft with not much green to work with.  The ball plugged in the face but managed to get it out and escape without too much damage.  The other I was in the back of a bastard of a kidney shaped bunker with a long carry, and the ball fell back into the front of the bunker.  So nothing to be too worried about bunker wise.

Had 19 points on the front which made me relax a bit - given that was the total I had for the whole round last week.  Conditions worsened on the back and I had a few bad breaks but ended up with 14 points for a total of 33.  With a small field and the conditions that was enough to deliver the win, which was a nice bonus.

It was Saturday, so not quite as biblical. Just cold and windy

With our scratch rating, playing to handicap is normally 34 points, so we'll occasionally have medal days with a winner below 36 points, but very rare in stableford

What a bloody disaster in the medal yesterday.  I actually hit the ball pretty well most of the time, stayed out of trouble and hit some lovely shots to give myself some good opportunities.  But my putting, particularly short putting was appalling all day.  On the second I had a lovely drive, left me just a 5 iron in and hit a lovely approach.  Nice first putt leaves me two feet for the par and I miss it.  Another miss a couple of holes later and then a few holes after that my (first) four putt of the day.

I ended up with a nett 79 which works out as 30 points, almost enough to flag.  But I could have been 8 or 9 shots better today if I had just been able to get out of my own head.

Ouch - I feel ya Deege - couldn’t putt at all yesterday - just never felt like I knew what the green was going to do! Some broke way more some less and they were pretty quick.

My problem was definitely between my ears.  Almost exclusively the problem was those short putts and once I had a couple of them miss, I couldn't get it out of my head when I was standing over them.  And every time I left the first putt 3 feet from the hole I was packing death.

Yep

You expect to make them so it’s so much pressure when you have no confidence in them

The answer to that Deege, is to chip them to 3 ft. Then, if the first putt misses, it's still only a 2-putt.

I've found the idea of a post shot routine useful. If it goes in the indulge in a bit of FIGJAM. If it misses do a quick analysis of what you would do if you had your time over. Did you read it right? Did you start it in your intended direction? Did you start it at your intended pace?

Then just let it go until next time when you pick the line, pick a pace and do your best to hit the putt on that line at that speed. You can do no more. Thoughts of whether the ball will go in the hole then fade away a little.
