Anyway, I am glad that someone is having fun here.  I played yesterday and had one of the worst rounds I have played in a while.  The uncontrollable driver was the main culprit again, but there were plenty of other poor shots from the long game.  I identified one shot that I am going to have to work out a solution for - the long running chip.  At present I just don't have a feel for it, so I am going to have to work on that.

However, generally my putting and chipping was the only thing saving me.  And probably the only thing bringing me back next week.

As for the driver, many of the problems were just being bloody scared of what I was going to do with the thing.  I don't think I made two strikes consistently all day.  I need to go back to the range and put some practice into the work that SC had me do.  I did one or two range sessions after that lesson and experienced significant improvement and then followed it up by never practising it again.  So first to see if I can do some work on the range and re-find some of that consistency, and then if it doesn't improve, will be heading back to SC for some more work.

What shaft is in your driver and I need abit more than, it's A flex, make and model please ?

Is the miss spinning to the right or the block cut shot ? High, low or normal ball flight and would also like to know the specs of your driver, the more info the better ?

Could be something as simple as the torque being to soft !

Jon...

I am playing a Ping K15 10'5 degree.  The driver shaft says Ping TFC 149 Tip Flex Control D Reg.  The fairway wood shaft (which I don't have the same problem with) says Ping TFC 169F SR-Flex.

My general driver shape has a bit of a gentle fade, but the concerning one is a big block.

Ok, I've done some research and the specs for your K15's are hard to find because they are getting on for 7 years old now ( released in 2011 )

The driver, 10.5 loft with tfc 149d reg flex is 55 grams, low kick point and 5.8 torque ( mens specs )

The  3 wood 15 degrees, tfc 169f soft reg flex is 61 grams, lkp and 6.2 torque ( mens specs )

Tfc 149 is slightly lighter with alot of help in the low kp and then the really soft tip section. As you've gained strength and a better swing thru rhythm and timing this shaft has become too soft and unpredictable via spin and the soft torque. Making it harder to square the clubface up at impact the harder that you go at it. If it's setup at mens length then it will also be hard to not swing it flat because of your height.

The 3 wood shaft is abit heavier but softer in both flex and torque. This combination has a better chance of working because you have 5 degrees more loft and a 3" shorter length of club to swing.

Some of the areas to look at when trialing new equipment would be shorter clubs for better contact. You can go lighter in shaft weight but then look harder at the flex, kick point and torque. More loft with a firmer tipped shaft might be a start ( less side-spin and more backspin ) 12 degrees, Reg or Aflex at 50 grams with 3.5 torque and a mid kp ( shaft flex depends on the manufacturer )

A combination that you can't miss and be aggressive with when required. Also being able to swing the club more on plane rather than just flat !

Some thoughts to ponder, I'm here all week :)

Jon...
