current ga hcp is 9.6 if i play at a course with a slope of 110 or less this weekend i will play off 9,which i dont feel is quite right .feel i need to get ga down to 9.4 . About this time last year i broke down to 9.6 blew up two weekends in a row on about 15 th 16 th holes when on track to break to 9.4.Proceeded to play crap golf for rest of the year handicap drifted to 13 and was one more bad round off 14 when i discovered i was swinging too fast and trying to hit the ball too hard . In the last 20 rounds i have broken back down from 13.something to 9.6 .I still have a played to 13 and 12.3 in my flags so all i have to do is play to my handicap.
why is this important ? I am not far off my 57 th birthday and if i do it i can take some satisfaction in that i have played off single figures at some stage in my 20's30's40's and 50's.Its also a bit more of a personal achievement considering i have had 3 breaks from comp golf(and golf in general) that would total twenty five years in that time.
Old age must be catching up with me because this time back has taken me the longest time to get back down under 10,however this is the first time i started so far back ,i was on 19 for my first game back.
I have four cards to come off before i hit a flag so over the next month i just need to play to 10 once and i will have reached single figures. Will be swinging slower, with tempo and not trying hit the ball too hard .Plus working on my short game .

Didn't think it was too windy today. I was inside all day though. Has that GCG hacker learned to putt at last?
I'm just pissed off OK? Don't ask.

Bit like a cricket score of 99 compared to 100 really. 9 compared to 10 ain't that big a difference. It is a milestone to be in singles. My focus is trying to consistently score a single markers score which I have really struggled to do since getting to a single figure.

agreed robinator going from 10 to singles is mostly mental and going to 6 is consistency in both your play and practice then going under 5 is all of the above plus talent in my opinion .
I have a tendency to have blow up holes eg narooma 8th hole flew a pw over the green and had double when going pretty well.Had an quadrouple on a back nine hole because of a pull hook ,next day i birdied and parred same two holes. So am going to try and just go steady steady par/bogey golf and build some consistency so as to break hcp and then stay there. Also try not to spit the dummy when i have a bad hole and throw all the toys out of the cot .
