Well....another disappointing day yesterday at Settlers Run. I got a text from my opponent in the singles Matchplay handicap wanting to play so I agreed. He was off 12 so I had to give him 3 shots.....which worked out as the 1st, 3rd and the 18th...as there was no matchplay index on the card.
It was also stroke off the yellow markers and count putts. Preferred lies on the fairways
1st - Double (Half)
2nd - Par (Win)
3rd - Par (Win)
4th - Bogey (Half)
5th - Bogey (Win)
6th - Bogey (Loss) Funny situation....my opponent was on the green for reg and I was over the back. I putted out for bogey and he putted up to about 2 feet for his 3rd. I conceded the putt and as it was stroke he reached over to putt out and proceeded to 4 putt for a double.....but the hole had been conceded.......That was the start of the rot....
7th - 3 putt double (loss)
8th - Par (Half)
9th - Bogey (Half)
So, one up and 44 off the stick and 18 putts
10th - Bogey (win)
11th - Par (Half)
12th - Bogey (Win) - Now 3 up again
13th - Double (Loss) After duffing the drive into crap and re-loading
14th - Double (Loss) Lost a ball after my playing group saw the second shot land in rough and having the long walk of shame
15th - Double (Loss) after almost losing a ball and taking a penalty
16th - Bogey (Loss) after over hitting a chip for regulation into the back bunker - At this stage I was now one down!!!!!!!!!!
17th - Par (Win)
So all square playing the last and the shot I was hoping I wouldn't have to give him (having already beaten him) came into play.
18th - A Narrow Shute through trees faced our tee shots...... I pulled my drive straight into the right tree so I walk back to my bag to get another ball. My opponent tees up and hits it into the left tree and has to re-load. Our provisionals find the fairway for 3. I had the perfect distance for my hybrid but hit it fat into the left bunker. He hit his to the front of the green but it rolled back down the fairway to roughly level with my ball. I hit a great 80 metre sand shot to about 12 feet (5) He chipped up to 20 feet (5) He putted up to about 4 feet so I needed to drop my putt for double bogey 6 and for a half (if he dropped his) My putt was just right for a triple (7) He dropped his putt for 7 (Nett 6) so game over.
BLOODY disappointed in my back 9
48 off the stick but 15 putts.
92 nett 83 with 33 putts
FIR - 11
GIR - 5
Pars or better - 5
Just too many silly shots on the back 9 as I felt I let him back into it. He had nett 87 and 99 off the stick....so it wasn't pretty.
One conciliation was I won a NTP on the 2nd but losing a flag this game will mean a slide of the handicap......in preparation for the Nationals. :-)
